    .223 with a threaded muzzle?

I have a Howa now and am looking to upgrade. I want something with a threaded muzzle, and beyond the ordinary, something with a short bolt lift, and high quality. So no Ruger Americans, no offense. I'm also not going to go nuts and get a custom built that weighs 10 pounds.

    Any ideas?

The latest version has a short bolt throw.

Most any barrel can be threaded.

          Budget?
          How will it be used?
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT

Looks interesting. Never seen one in local stores, but then I've never looked for one either.

South of custom rifle territory. I want a factory-built.

            How will it be used?
I don't know, just screwing around for now. Banging steel at the range. I don't want too much weight because that's one of those irreversible attributes, in case I change my mind for what I want to use it for.

Tikka and Weatherby make light rifles with threaded barrels and short bolt lifts.

Don't get too short of an action. It could limit your future caliber choices through re-barreling. B.

The only Weatherby that's short bolt lift is the Mark V, and I'm not sure they sell it in .223. The Vanguard is essentially what I have now in my Howa. I haven't seen a Tikka with a threaded muzzle except maybe the CTR, and I don't remember seeing one in .223.

I'm never going to re-barrel this gun.

Sorry not Weatherby it was Browning I was thinking of. Must be getting old.

Tikka makes a 223 Threaded model and Browning has a few different to choose from.

Why a short throw and why under 10 pounds for punching paper and plates?

What's wrong with the rifle you (OP) have?

I've got a Howa 1500 in .223 with a varmint barrel that shoots groups under an inch. I use it with a tripod or sticks and shoot a 2" diameter steel plate at 100 yards to vary the practice routine.

My other .223 is a Tikke T3. Same drill. My only complaint with that rifle is, in the summer I'm limited to three shots before the barrel needs to cool.

                            Out of production.

Kind of interesting. I don't know anything about X-bolts. Never played with one, but Cabela's carries them. The thing is they put trigger locks on everything. How are the triggers?
