    Henry .41 mag

So I got my Henry. 41 with the 20 inch barrel. What range would be good to dispatch a dangerous and deadly deer? Of course I would shoot him in the eye. PAX

I had the pleasure of shooting a friends 41 mag lever gun early last year. I talked about that caliber for 6 months after that.

Danm!!! he called me today and now your post, I'm going to get me all fired up on that caliber again.

100 yards would be my answer.
It takes a lot of balls to play golf the way I do.

Thanks. Took me 3 years to finally get after one to accompany my Blackhawk. I had been searching for a Marlin but I missed the boat on one that was reasonably priced, so I got the Henry. Firstest new rifle in quite a while. It's pretty smooth with really nice furniture and I'm considering putting some glass on it. Something in the 1.5 X 28 range. PAX

There are two factors to consider for range, effective power and ability to compensate for drop. Power wise with the right load it should easily be good within 150-200 yards or so for a deer. Ability to judge distance and how well you can compensate is all about the you part of the equation.

          Congrats! on the new rifle.

.41 Magnum is a bit flatter-shooting than .44 Magnum, but bullet selection may not as wide-ranging.

          We expect pictures, sir!

Yes, sir! This will be one of the rifles that will keep my busy once they put me out to pasture...

Congrats! We've got three Henry's and really like em! Never had a .41 but have always wanted one. Immensely fond of its kissing cousin the 10mm. Ya got pics?

Good buy. 41 is a great caliber. Very versatile. Pics would be appreciated.

                Congrats!
Love .41 Magnum, my favorite cartridge by far (except for .22 LR )

Here are Marlin and Henry .41 Magnums, except now Henry wears Leupold VX-Freedom 1.5-4x20mm scope with Pig-Plex Reticle, same as on my Marlin .41 Magnum. Revolvers are .41 Magnum too. Marlin was converted from pistol grip to straight stock.

I also shot the same .41 rifle that golfish shot. That belongs to 200Apples right here on this forum. He has a real nice Marlin! The Henry's are nothing to sneeze at; I have two of 'em: .357 and .45 Colt. A .41 like yours would be my next lever gun. I have a Weaver 1-3x20mm on the .357 and a Leupold 2-7x33mm on the .45 They really help my shooting. You made a good purchase.

MyOdessa, that is some fine hardware you have there. Real fine.

I used to be able to consistently put .44 magnum rounds on a plate at 100 yards open sighted - with a little optic help I’m sure you could reach out to 150 yards. It’s not that it wouldn’t be lethal, but those slugs start to drop before 200 yards.

I don't really intend to hunt with it, but was curious of the potential. I've got a Savage 99F in .308 for the real work. Thanks for the input fellas, PAX.

With a stout load, 100-150 yds should be an ethical deer kill zone. Apples probably has the most trigger time with this caliber in a lever.
When he gets all that sticky birthday cake frosting off his typing fingers, no doubt he will check in.

I agree that a good .41 Mag rifle load (easy 1500+ fps) and a 210 gr XTP will suffice with decent marksmanship through 150 yards, yes.

And I don't have a lot of time on the gun, actually. Not even 500 rounds yet.
Not even close to having a pet load for it, although I have an idea.
