      Lead the target.

      Or use artillery.

Shoot skeet. We go where there are shallow slope hills. Take a motorcycle tire and put cardboard in it and have someone roll down slope good practice on moving target Take a few up the hill at a time and trade off. Good exercise as well. Practice at various distances. Max maybe 100 yards. Running jacks with your hunting rifle.

First you must practice catching flies with chop sticks.

            OK, seriously,

I have a friend who belongs to a range where they have a deer shaped target that's pulled back and forth at rapidly changing speeds. There are some outfitters who have a similar setup. There are also little red jumping balls you can shoot with a 22.

Paintball matches, if you or your friends are into that kind of thing.

We have shot moving targets in matches for years.
Once you learn to estimate the speed of the moving target, it's pretty easy to calculate the lead required.
Then you just have to decide if you prefer to trap (sit still and fire when the lead is there) or to chase (maintain the lead by holding the lead at the same speed as the target).
You will know which you prefer from your past practice.
Being good at both is the most useful because you will be better at changing directions.

As others have said, skeet or trap. But do you know which eye is dominant? Are you shooting with it? It matters a lot with moving targets.

How does one learn to hit a moving target?

There are a lot of answers here. Choose wisely.

With a rifle, as I assume your asking about because of the forum, you need to now your flight time and mils or Moa covered as they run. This determines your lead.

With distance the lead really increases and skeet and all the other suggestions are not in play.

You can as a start estimate the animals speed/angle and preprint dope for various distances if mils over time seems complicated..

My son lead this 10 mils (or about 34 MOA) on the run, stoned it with 1 shot.

Know your ballistics, get good at estimating speed and distance know your quarry.

Spitball a benchmark. 50 yards 20 miles an hour what's your lead? Work from there.

Find a range with a running deer target and practice.
In NorCal the ukiah gun club had one a few years back at least and it would humble you.
