What is everyone's opinion on the Howa M1500 Tactical on sale, front page of their Fall flyer?

    What about the Remington 783?

The R700 is a bit of a stretch, eyeing $500 ball park. Not trying to get .5 MOA.

I saw that some of the gun come in .308 or 6.5cm, but cost per round is a factor as I won't be reloading.

Thoughts? Likely only going out to 300yards. I know I could just use a .223 and call it a day, but I kinda already can do that with an AR. Just want something different and capable to add to the collection.

I already do have a Swiss K31 I take out every now and then, but that's more of a collector's thing with irons.
This is what I'm saving my pennies for. I too am not going to really shoot past 300 yards so the .223 Remington will work just fine for my needs. Plus I can reload it with the press I already own.

    Here are the part numbers:
    HCRA70222 20" barrel https://vizardsgunsandammo.com/howa-...-t-c-223-4420/
    HCRA70202 24" barrel
    Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

For a slightly different direction, I think you could take your existing K31, add a Swiss Products scope mount (it clamps on, so no permanent mods & no gunsmithing required, but it's still very secure), then a quality scope of your choice, and finally a stockpile of GP11.

You view it as a collector gun, but there's no reason why it can't see regular service as a precision shooter, esp since you'll only be using it at a range & not lugging it through the woods hunting with it.

But if you just want to buy another gun, nothing wrong with that either.

If you go on Gunbroker. You can find the Ruger RPR in 556. I picked one up three months ago. I like it a lot.
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.
I really miss the good old Pomona Gun Shows.

That's the goal as well, build into a chassis.

          All things considered, we'll see!

I have about 600 rounds of GP11 stocked up. I kinda want to leave it as is and enjoy the rifle with irons.

Yeah, but how much did you pay for it?

If you are interested in a chassis for the Howa, this is a pretty good one and they accept offers. Even if you pay full price for it you'll have a chassis gun for around $700:

I also checked Brownells, they have just the Howa action and barrel for $300. So, if you miss the Turner's deal, there's always that.

Yeah, thats why the Turners deal is so good because if its in stock you dont have to pay a transfer fee to get an action shipped from Brownells to a dealer.

Great! But let's make sure I can get the rifle, first.

Don't be in too much of a hurry to get a chassis. The Hogue stock it comes with is pillar bedded and the barrel is free floated. Plenty fine for 300 yards off a bench. If you want to shoot PRS/NRL where you have to build positions and like that you might want a chassis.

Get a 270 Win for your first IMO - nothing fancy. You can shoot it, you can hunt with it - you can take 90% of the game in the US with it. At wally world and most places you can find $0.80 or $0.86 cents per round.

Then - hone your skills and buy a precision rifle in what caliber you desire. Who knows, as you grow in the sport you might start reloading - then caliber wont be an issue.

Some of you guys are really smoking crack.. My completely stock Howa 1500 heavy barrel 308 (like the one on sale now) hits steel 10/10 times at 300yds. They are very accurate, solid rifles.

Too late. I'm a sucker for the cool factor of chassis.

I'd prefer a one and done. I've been between the common 308 and the sleeker 6.5CM. I have a general understanding of each round's limits. A 6.5CM hits like 90% of what I'm looking for, and a 308 hits like 85% of what I'm looking for. Just the price wins here for me.

I bet Turner's will offer the exact same rifle in 6.5CM in a sale sometime this year.
