Marlin 94C Loads

Most of my lever shooting is close up speed stuff. Typically very light loads.

Wanted to see how the 357mag carries at 50-100 yds.

158gr Acme, 6.0gr Unique
158gr Acme, 5.5gr Unique
125gr Acme, 6.5gr Unique

94C loves velocity at those distances. But these are mid-range loads. They were surprisingly accurate, however. 5.5gr was very, soft shooter.

For higher velocity loads, I use 2400 because it works with small pistol primers. H110 for max velocity loads.

Are you using the coated bullets from Acme? RNFP ?

Exactly right. ACME coated RNFP.

We also shot 308 and 30-06. Sporter Enfield and Springfield. Some pics of that attached. My neighbor tore the x-ring up with those. He is an exceptional rifle pilot.

Nice pics there Duece. Kinda miss my bolt rifles as I just sold my Sako to a buddy in Idaho. Nowadays, I'm just a leverholic! Which ain't a bad thing.

30-06 Lever

Hadn't shot 30-06 in years. Really preferred it to the 308. Wonder how close the 30-30 is to the 30-06 ballistics? Would love to see how that caliber felt in a lever.

Trying very hard to not own a bolt action. Those old military rifles are great fun to shoot -- and part of world history.

Duece, I still have one 30-06 left; A Ruger No. 1B falling block which is activated by a smallish lever. An '06 has it all over a 30-30, but, no flies on a good 'ol 30-30. Have one of those also. Mod 94. I'm tellin' ya, leverholic here.

Hey fellers!

I was on Day 1 of my trip to Montana when this thread started. Got home two days ago, on Wednesday... had a lot of fun, and took my blued 16" Rossi 92 .357 and my Marlin 1894 SBL, which I shot both in Montana and on the way home after I stopped for fuel in Boron just off the 58.

Good times. Hope to see all you dudes at the next MLC g2g.

The plan for me and the family is to leave Wednesday morning for the Mammoth area, a little camping and fishing. I'll see if our spot is open up.

Lever Gun Jet Setters

Montana, Idaho, Mammoth? I will be going to Brea Mall this weekend. The closest I will come to a trout is the McFishy at McDonalds. Enjoy!

Chris, how did you like Yellowstone?

I drove through the western portion of Yellerstone, and while I was blown away by some incredibly idyllic scenery (of course), the sheer stupidity of most of the park goers was staggering.

People stopped in the MIDDLE of the road to take pictures of bear and bison. One man started walking TOWARD a bison, but was reprimanded by a ranger, thank God. Bison can weigh 2000 lbs and run 30 MPH, three times faster than I can. No thanks. So, that was just one 30-minute delay... there were two other 30+ minute delays for road construction, a legit delay.

The day through Yellowstone turned a 4-hour trip from Pocatello to Bozeman into a 6+ hour trip. There was also lighting, thunder, heavy, heavy rain on the last 3 miles getting out the North Entrance...

I like to top off my truck every 100 miles or so... by the time I've gassed, glassed and trashed, 2 hours have elapsed and I'm back on the road with a full tank. This really paid off when delayed for an additional two hours in Yellowstone. As we crawled out the North Entrance, every vehicle in front of me dove into the sole gas station in the area while I drove right on by.

I bought a book later at a U.S Forest Service outpost at the Memorial for those campers lost during the earthquake and massive mountain slide that buried them in 1959... the one that dammed the Madison and created Earthquake Lake.

The book is titled, "Death In Yellowstone: Accidents and Foolhardiness in the first National Park".

Yellowstone and it's history could become a huge rabbit hole to go down.

That was the first book my oldest bought on our family trip in 1997. Lots of crazy, dumb @$$ people visit there every year. My daughter said they would come into the restaurant she worked at and ask where they keep the animals at night (she worked there for one season)
