Finally found one...now the wait.

Walked into a gun store I've frequented for decades, went straight to the used rifles. Started talking shop...again mentioning that I'm looking for a used 35 Whelen and how hard they are to come by. The manager, who've I've known for 40 years, hollers out from the back of the store..."Looks like this is your lucky day!"

He goes out back and comes out with a mint condition Ruger M77 in 35 Whelen...I mean as clean as they come. Comes with a Pentax 1.5 x 6 scope and some ammo and dies. He says it literally came into the store less than 2 hours ago. I was jacked!!

Now I have to wait...apparently there is some 30 day rule where they hold the firearm for that time before they can sell it? Regardless it's got my name and phone number on it and is stashed in the back of the store waiting for me.

No kidding! I wasn't going to stop in as I just bought a little .22 that I haven't picked up at another gun store. If I hadn't I would likely as not never seen it much less had the opportunity to purchase it.

It goes into a 30 day "police" hold. This gives DOJ/LE a chance to run the numbers and ensure that the firearm hasn't been reported as stolen...or linked to a crime.

Technically, it can be DROS'd at the 20 day mark due to the 10 day wait (20+10=30), but it depends on the store if they will do that or not. They run the risk of having to tell the customer that they cannot release the firearm...

That is correct, it is law put in affect for Pawn Shops.

A guy actually brought two engraved Colts into our shop to sell. Had no idea what he had, the amount he asked for was way to cheap! I knew they were stolen, had to be. I had one of the guys stall him while he filled all the paper work out while I called PD.

Turns out they were stolen from the Roy Rogers Museum. Had we paid the guy for them and ran them thru the process. we would have lost the money.

Spent an hour or so researching powders, bullets, and loads. All my reloading manuals are early 80's and even earlier.
