Thanks Mark! Still can't figure out the pic/post thing. Friggin' dinosaur me.
The wood looks way better in real time. Loaded up 20 rounds today, just to see how things work. Flawless. It was a busy day yesterday; wife misplaced her cell phone, freak-out, found the thing in her car. Geez. Damn land lines were dead from rain, got those taken care of today. Lordy, I'm gonna kick back and enjoy a beer or two or.......

Not trying to hijack this thread, apologize in advance. But i would like to ask a question; you seem to have real life experience's with both the Marlin and Henry levers, if you were going to purchase a .44 mag, which lever gun would you purchase? And why?
This would be a can and paper target killer, maybe mount a scope in the future for a hunter as well.

Well...I have a Marlin 30AS .30-30, love it. A Rossi 92 .357, love it. Savage 99F .308, my favorite...but I'm fiening for a Henry Big Boy Steel in .41 mag , if that's any help. PAX

The newer[last year and a half] have all been pretty good. But, still hit and miss at times. It's why I went with Henry; just haven't seen any bad one's. The two I have, are as good as I could ask for. One in .357, Brass the other in .45 Colt above. Also, the action's on these Henry's are as smooth as butter.

Chris, I have a two day race schedule this weekend, so no way for me till early Feb, hopefully. That newest Rossi you had in the desert last time, with the real nice wood; what caliber is that? I forget! Dang senior moments.

Tom that newest-of-mine Rossi is the older of the two I own, and both are in .357. It is an Interarms (pre-Braztech), and while it seemed to work "ok" last time we were out, it has since become troublesome to load, and when the gun gets warm from use, the action doesn't cycle well.

I know what to do to fix it, but I'll have to disassemble it completely to do so.

My newer Rossi is one I purchased four years ago. It's a blued 16" and it's a slick lil' macheen.


So you're racing? Well awlrightythen! Keep the shiney side up, and we'll get out there with you again in February. Meanwhile, I'm keeping an eye on the weather. It may still be very windy out there through Sunday... which wouldn't stop me, it would just be a nuisance.

Hey Mark, search gunbroker and the like for a Winchester model 92 short rifle. Their website says the 44 mag is in production right now, you should be able to find one for under $900.00. You can't go wrong there.

The 44 mag is hard to find right now. Winchesters website says they are in production but I don't see any for the price they should be at. There's the 45 colt if your interested in that. It could be they haven't reached the market yet.

Gofish great looking rifle, I'm thinking of a 45 colt one myself. I do have a older Marlin 1894 in 44 mag I bought it at K-Mart.
But what I'd really like to see Henry do is bring the single shot rifle out in 38-55.

I would seriously give the Rossi M92 a look.

About a year ago, I was looking for lever action .44 rifle. I really liked the Henry Big Boy, but could not get past the tube loader magazine feature.

I much prefer the side gate loader. Then I looked at Rossi's M92 and the price was right. I paid $450 for it. And much like you, I intended to have it as a can and paper target killer.

The Rossi M92 ( .44 Mag ) works for me.
