Rebarrelling a Tikka

What is all the fuss? Never had an issue getting Tikka barrels off. Once had a Howa 1500 teach me a lesson. Proper fitting 3" long steel, aluminum, or delrin bushing, choked up close to the ring, and a proper fitting action wrench and they all pop. No damage to the finish.

You and I don't have problems because we use the right tools and know what we are doing...

Are Tikka actions that terrible? I purchased the blued one which isn't the most expensive option. I was planning to reuse the action as, I thought, it was a tried and true respected action. The rifle isn't special...the ultralight is just the the fact the barrel is "short" and fluted and it only cost like 550.

At first my plan was just to buy the pre cut, contoured, reamed and threaded barrel from Patriot Valley Arms and reuse the action and slap it into a chassis. Yes, I'll probably have to take it somewhere to get the barrel off but you all make it seem like the pre cut barrel is trash or doesn't exist lol.

No, Tikka actions are great. I did the same thing you are planning; bought cheap light, rebarreled to 6.5, installed in chassis.

I have two of them. I like the way they shoot, their actions are very smooth, and I can adjust the triggers so they require very little pressure.

Some of us were suggesting other alternatives that would set you back less money and might get you closer to what you say you're looking for.

Listen to Randall. We used Tikka actions to build long range hunting and tactical rigs. And getting the barrels off most of them was a chore.

As Randall pointed out...DO NOT USE the action wrench to try and remove the barrel.
It will mess up the action and bolt races.

Good luck. Best to take it or ship it to someone who has done them in the past and is set up for it.

The Tikka action makes a great foundation for a custom build.

If you are taking the barrel off and don't plan on selling it who cares what it looks like?
Grind two flats on it put it in a vise and spin the action off.
The install is the same as a Savage

I got a PVA prefit barrel for my ruger american and am very happy with it.
Like you I switched from a 308 to a 6.5 and dropped it into a brownells/MDT chassis. Fortunately ruger barrels aren't difficult to remove and I did it myself.
I did scratch the heck out of the smooth barrel nut, but wasn't reusing it anyway. Headspace was easy with go/no-go gauges.
All in all I made a $200 rifle into a $1000 one.
