Could be that whoever originally built the rifle kept the scope when he got rid of it and some gun store guy threw on whatever he had laying around to complete a package and sell a rifle? Or maybe all the work that was done to the rifle was just low budget DIY stuff he did in his garage..

Sorry to say, but yeah, junk.

Tasco had a World Class and Euro model, as usual the Japan made ones were decent enough for hunting and shooting at medium range (300 yards below). They claim shock proof, but I wouldn’t trust one on a medium recoil rifle. My TC Contender 7-30 Waters barrel destroyed a Tasco pistol scope and it didn’t take half the box of ammo to do it.The wise man said just find your place

That tasco SS series was an excellent scope, etched glass reticle, mil dot, perfect tracking.
It was made at a separate factory in Japan, and carries on as the SWFA SS.
I put one on my HKSR9TC, and its a stellar scope. Hundreds of rounds, easily puts all 20 into a manhole cover at 800y.
So, yeah, not all bad.Originally posted by tony270It's easy to be a keyboard warrior, you would melt like wax in front of me, you wouldn't be able to move your lips.Originally posted by repubconservPrint it out and frame it for all I careOriginally posted by el chivoI don't need to think at all..XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXOriginally posted by pjsigYou are talking to someone who already won this lame conversation, not a brick a wall. People tried the Trashco SS on the 50BMG since they bragged about them so much for that use. Most broke in under 100 rounds. I may be old but I remember that well. That is why I waited for a 6 month backorder for a Nightforce NXS for my 1st 50bmg. I wanted to shoot it so I stuck a used Leupold Varri-X II 3x9x40 on it. That scope is still just fine on another rifle once I got my Nightforce. Put another Nightforce on the 2nd 50bmg but did not have to wait for it.A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

Good is relative. The fixed 4x MIJ Tasco on my wife's 10/22 is great for the price of $10 used. She can see hits on the splatter targets at 50 yards so yeah.Comment

TASCO or TRASHCO?
QC and reliability are all over the globe. The very first scoped CF rifle I ever bought was from a coworker back in 1968. $75 for a used Rem 600 carbine in .308 with a fixed 4x Tasco. That little bastard kicked like a mule. Scope wouldn't hold zero. But scope wasn't the problem.
Junky "Bushnell Universal Mount" was. Really, WTF with mounting a scope with a single stud on each end. With a hard rubber block under the rear ring/mount.
That Tasco has accounted for many deer on that .308 and a .243. With Redfield JR mounts and rings. My only issue is now those early fine crosshairs are difficult to find in low light.
I have a 6-24x42 AO mil dot Target/Varmint Tasco on a heavy bull barrel SB2 H&R single shot .223. "2004" No issues after several hundred rounds.
Another Japanese Tasco 3-9x32 on a md 144 Mossberg 22lr target rifle. GTG.
But the 3-9x32 "Pronghorn" [cheapie hecho in China] I have on a light weight 22lr semi auto plinker. Tends to wander a bit. And in all honesty, may be the fault of the long pencil barrel
Yes, they were, some still are.The question is why do all that and put a Tasco scope on it. its a older Tasco glass looks good, were they decent a long time ago?
"Older Tasco", full size Rem 700, and chambered in a very low recoiling .223. Most likely the guy who did the work on the rifle to begin with. Knew what he was doing. And that scope is actually well suited for the purpose intended.
Only way to find out for sure is to "choot it".
Your son is a lucky lad, to have you for a dad.So picked up a Rem 700 chambered in 223. it for my son he's two but one day.Comment

I have a Tasco Titan in 3 to 9X - made in Japan, 30 mm tube with the German reticle - on a CZ 550 carbine in 9.3X62. The optics are nice and clear, tracks well with good eye relief. The rifle gives a pretty vigorous belt when fired, never a problem with the scope though.GOA Member & SAF Life MemberComment
