High end lever guns - ?

There was a thread (or three) about a company that made some pretty high end lever rifles, $3K ish if memory serves me. The family is thinking of pitching in and getting one as a college graduation present for my nephew but I can't seem to find the company.

    Thanks,
    Lance

EDIT: I think I found it... Grizzly rifles perhaps? And not $3K, more like $6K, yikes!

Thanks guys! He's a lever action nut and me and my two sisters were going to split it three ways so $3K was pretty much the budget but we can stretch it a few hundred. I think the original one I was thinking of was Big Horn Armory http://www.bighornarmory.com/ but it appears they make pretty much just huge pistol caliber stuff. Very cool, but I think we want a classic .30-30 as he lives in Tennessee.

Shafferds - I have no doubt Winchester Japan makes a fine 94, they make nice guitars and cars as well... but we're pretty hard core USA made when it's an option.

Not "high end" but pretty nice and definitely USA made: Henry Rifles.

That might be the best choice I agree... and that was my initial inclination but I'm just not sure a used gun despite it's quality will do since the sisters are kind of wanting a "new" keepsake grade rifle possibly engraved etc. I find it difficult to convince women of anything sensible, would you like to try your hand with them? I'm not even sure I could convince Cole (nephew) of the pre-64 relevance, he was was born in 1997!

It looks like Henry makes what we are looking for and it's roughly half the budget, and I like Henry rifles a lot... but I was just trying to step it up a little in the "not very many people have one of these" department.

Just saw your post and I agree. Their deluxe versions are beautiful and available with engraving etc.

Henry Long Ranger. Bolt gun accuracy in a locking bolt lever gun. I want one badly.

Awesome! Are you familiar with this stuff as far as pricing goes? In other words, is this a fair deal or is it a "dream price" by the seller since it has no bids? That thing checks all the boxes as far as I am concerned, and I guess since we're willing to spend that much anyway the value shouldn't matter too much I suppose, but nobody likes to pay too much.

Forwarding that to my sisters, thanks for the heads up.

US made by Henry. Around $1,500 and not very many people have one.

There are no US made high-end levers anymore, and there are aren't many gunsmiths left that can take a new one and rebuild it into a high-end rifle.

If you insist on US made, I think your best option would be to find vintage Winchester 94 like the "new old one" posted above.

Just being new and that age makes it special. I don't think the price is out of line, but as soon as he shoots it its value goes down to match the nicest gun that looks as clean.

The other option is a new Japan made Winchester. I would bet a dollar that they are better than that old new Winchester.

The new Japan made Winchesters that I've seen are truly beautiful and, function perfectly. The wood is very attractive and has nice oil rubbed finish. They are as "high-end" or better than anything made here but reasonably priced.

This is a Marlin 336C chambered in .30-30 with a 20'' barrel.  For a limited time, we will be selling the Marlin 336C with refinished wood and receiver.

                              Thats one ugly gun.

No tuning, just refinished and that ugly redish gloss finish, c'mon, thats not high-end!
