There two kinds of Hogue stocks. I doubt the one on the right has a flexible forend.

Definitely. I think they must have updated them since I was last on the market which was admittedly a few years. I think the forend flex was customer's primary complaint and they took that to heart and solved it. Good catch.

I would keep that rifle stock and buy a Remington or Savage to tinker with...My 2cents.

They still sell both types. Howas come with the pillar-bedded, but you can buy the full-length block version for under 200 bucks.

Sounds like the best option if you want a target rifle.

They did not fall from favor among hunters and are still the best quality for value rifle available with CRF and a 3-position safety. They are almost on par with many custom hunting rifles with the same features, and a big step above CZ.

The new FN rifles assembled in Portugal are some of the highest quality Winchesters ever made, and those awesome FN barrels are real shooters. I have an extensive collection of pre-64 M70s, and the new ones are just as good, if not better than the post-war models.

Model 70s are one of the best selling hunting rifles in the world still, so they have definitely not fallen from favor. If it isn't exactly what you want for long-range target shooting, put it up for sale and you should have hunters jumping all over it.

If money were no object (and I see it's not for Desert Dog who has 30 trillion zimbabwe dollars ) then I would keep it as-is, and buy a new M70 in your chambering of choice.

I have a M70 in .30-06 that was made in 2014, and that rifle is simply amazing, the quality is spectacular and it puts a hole precisely at the crosshair, every time. I left it completely stock, except for the scope, because it just doesn't need anything. The trigger is amazing, it doesn't really even move, you just apply some pressure to it and BANG. My new M70 was one of my favorite gun purchases, I'd do it again in a heartbeat.
Settle down, folks. The new "ghost gun" regulations probably don't do what you think they do.

I’m gonna load up some rounds and see how it shoots. If it groups good I guess it will be a good varmint gun. I do have about 400pc of brass for it. The stock definitely needs to be replaced tho. I just picked up a 224 Valkyrie upper for my AR and I think I’m gonna give that a go before putting a new barrel on anything.
