All the Howa 1500 rifles that I've ever seen shoot great. Especially the Howa 308 Woodstock bull barrel Rifle's built with Smith & Wesson's name on them.

Roy Weatherby's original rifles of the 1940s I'm sure must have had strong Mauser origins. But the pictures I saw in this post had little to do with Mauser. Not sure how the new Weatherby's are equipped, but the 70s rifles that I'm familiar with had a 60 degree bolt lift and a lot, maybe 9, locking lugs.

A modern day Vangaurd is in a league of its own when compared to a decent Winchester Pre-64. And a lot of rifle shooters are not aware of this difference so that is why I posted on this topic. If or should someone else wish to compare the rifles in question then fine. It is still America.

The 'traditional' rifle shooters that were hard for Weatherbys in the late 1970s leave them in the Safe today and shoot the Winchesters and Mausers of the 30s 40s and 50s. and shoot the Winchesters and Mausers of the 30s 40s and 50s.

I was referring to the part of your post that said the Weatherby lovers of the 70's leave them in the safe and shoot Mauser's of the 30's 40's and 50's.
The nine lug Weatherby came out in the late 60's and all the earlier guns I own are built on Mauser actions but say Weatherby on them.

Lay down ~$1,000 for a 300 Weahtherby Mark - Five in 1979....Go shooting today with a Mauser K98 in 8mm. Simple. Why I don't know. I didn't have that kind of money for rifles then. But I know those that did.

Today those Mark-Fives rest safely in the closet and the shooters take the '06s, Garands, ComBloc 8mms and Mosins to the range on a regular basis today. Range, not Barbeque Range. More on that story later. Most of 70s are memory, long term memory. But I still know these guys and for the short term memory recording(s) I see what they are shooting. And it isn't a rifle with a Weatherby sticker on it.
