Ruger american ranch $460 rifle in 7.62x39, any reviews on it? Good for a survival ri

Hi so i was considering a ruger gunsight scout at turners for sale on sale at $469. Its in 7.62x39 and has a rail for adding scope etc. has anyone purchased one of these, shot it and would you trust it as a survival/BO gun? I particularly like its short length as something light and easy to carry around, and the ammo is bery cheap and the caliber is good as a hunting round and i also have an sks that i would use as a more defensive weapon but seeing as they could share ammo, that is a plus as well. Ive also heard of people being able to stop even larger predators such as browns/grizzlies with this caliber.

But i want to hear what everyone else thinks. Im not looking to soend thousands nor do i make that kind of money. And im looking for opinions and experiances with this rifle in particular.
I would also like to get into hunting and was hoping this would be a good rifle to learn on.
I do have other rifles but i have a thing for compactness and portability for a tough situation or situation where you might have to walk long distances etc.

Im not an expert nor claim to be in anyway so bear that in mind with responses.

Oh and also has anyone had experiances putting steel case through it? Can it handle it without problems? Obviously i will go to brass case but i will also be getting steel case stuff when found very cheaply. Ive seen boxes of 20rds surplus go for less then $5 a box near me at a local store.

It sounds like a fun gun. Keep in mind you will have a hard time finding non-lead ammo to hunt.

I mean yes but hunting is a ways down the road for me and i may also be leaving the state in the next year maybe mid 2019. If i had to i guess id get some ammo online though but its still cheaper then 30-30/308 30-06 etc and as a plinking rifle too is much cheaper to shoot and practice then spending on more expensive calibers.

There is non lead ammo available but it’s like 40$ for a box of 20 but that should last you a few seasons of hunting. The plinking ammo is cheap and you could actually afford to be proficient with rifle. I’d get the American Ranch though instead of the scout. It’s a perfect bush gun. Lightweight and compact in a commen cheap caliber. The scout style scopes are irritating.

So ive never owned any kind if scout rifle like this, what about them makes the scopes tougher? I was even considering a lower end red dot or something for shorter range shooting and probably reserve the sks for longer stuff or my lever gun in 45 LC. And again im considering price range, this rifle at about $500 new and not sure what the one you mentioned goes for.
Im not very proficient in the world of scopes or other optics like red dots but basically something that will allow me to accuratly hit something at 75-100 yards away but could also be used for much closer ranges if need be.

I loved the trigger on it and the bolt, i got used to using my middle finger on the trigger and my pointer finger and thumb staying on the bolt( i have a no 4 mk 2 lee einfield that i used to shoot alot before ammo dried up for it but thats how i learned how to shoot it at faster paces and was still dead accurate on it thats with irons at about 40-50 yards.
I also had a k98 that id utilize the same technique for and its trigher was even better. Its a re worked rifle imported by mitchells mausers but it was very cheap and i got it to shoot more so then collect ( i kick myself for selling it today)

Inwas actually originally looking at the mini action combo in the same caliber but it would need more for the optic and was more expensive and the clerk was the one who pointed to the ruger. Ive also looked at the cz 527 in 7.62x39 but it was $617 before tax and dros.
Ideally i want to keep the same overall length, but the weight of the riger was much heftier then the mini action, thus didnt feel as cheap yet not too heavy to carry.

Ps i just saw the ruger ranch rifle you mentioned, it actually looks exactly like ruger gunsight scout rifle that was shown, same stock, same rail on top the stock design was exactly the same. The difference in the bideo was the guy put a compensator on the end and had a bigger magazine attached to it, but otherwise as i can see it looked like a mirror copy though his was in 450 bushmaster. The length was the same too.
Maybe its the scout because its only chambered in 7.62x39 and i think maybe .223 as well where as the others are bigger calibers?

Ruger doesn't make a Gunsight Scout rifle in 7.62x39. The only bolt action they make in that caliber is the American Ranch which uses Mini-30 magazines. The one that Turners has on sale for $460 is the American Ranch. If the person at Turners was calling it a Gunsight Scout, they were wrong.
I have the American Ranch with a Primary Arms 1-6x24 scope with ACSS 7.62x39 reticle but have not had the chance to take it to the range yet. If it shoots anything like the American Ranch in 5.56mm, which I also have, it should be a nice little rifle.

I have a few 7.62x39 rifles. That round changes when going from a semi to bolt. You will be suprised in a good way. I love it.

Does anyone know if this is a .311 or .308 bore. Most of the surplus is for a .311 bore barrel. This sounds like a fun rifle for handloaded ammo. With a .308 bore there is a much greater selection of ammo.

I have one but in a 308 caliber. Great shooter. with minimal recoil and easy to handle.

So i do stand corrected, in the flyer it reads as the ruger american ranch, so i guess the person who pointed me to it just misnamed it, but non the less im between this, the howamini action combo or the CZ 527, but i like that the ranch has a rail already for optics and seems just heftier in a good way. Though i cant imagine 7.62x39 really throwing this thing around compared to say a 308 etc. the cz is nice and has irons already on it so ready to shoot as is without an optic, but a $200+ price difference which i feel for less can get a good optic and rings for it and still save money.

Im sold on the caliber regardless which platform i choose. Anyone have any bideo of themselves shooting this in the same caliber or a comparisson to a similar rifle? I was looking at the .223 but you cant really hunt larger then varmint with it save for coyotes etc, but i believe 7.62x39 is legal for deer etc.
