Remington 783 vs savage Axis II bolt raction?

I am thinking about picking 1 of these up. Any recommendation?

I heard the Remington 700 use to fire on its own due to a faulty safety switch. Is this true? Or has been debunk?

The problem is suppose to have been fixed . If you get old stock, there is a recall to get the trigger replaced.
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.

Interesting question, let's think about it.
reading all the posts on this forum it is an easy one:

      1. Rem is the greatest creation of human being (in the bolt gun department), The only thing you need is to buy a gun, then change the barrel, put a new stock, a new trigger and a new bolt. Also a good scope would not hurt, then you get a great a sub-MOA rifle

      2. Savage- garbage gun, you buy it for 1/2 price XP package(meaning comes with a decent hunting scope), then you buy some ammo, hit the range and start shooting Sub-MOA groups.

      Now, decision is yours

If you want the savage. Look for this one.

Plinker rifle. Comes with the accutrigger.

Don't buy one with the thin hunting barrel to do a lot of plinking.

Which ever savage. Get the one with accutrigger.

Or even spend a little more and go to the next level.

Get the Savage. The Rem783 is just a cheap rifle made to compete with other cheaper rifles. The Savage is a cheaper rifle that is higher quality.

The 700 had problems and there was a recall. The new ones do not have that problem.

Buy the Savage and you will be happy.

Savage makes great rifles for the money, they are accurate. Get the savage axis in Hardwood or upgrade to the trophy hunter if you want synthetic. The Axis synthetic stock leaves a little bit to be desired, or go with a Boyds after market.

I like the 783 I think it is better than the Axis. Most the people trashing the 783 have probably never touched one. I think the 783 has smoother bolt lift than the Axis and it doesn't cost as much for spare mag for the 783. Not saying the Axis is totally bad but you should compare them side by side if you can.

Any gun can malfunction like that if improperly maintainled of mis-adjusted.

A Remington 783 does not even use a 700 trigger, bolt or fire control parts.
                        They are completely different guns.

Your question is much like asking if the current chevy vans explode when they are hit from the side because the 1970's chevy trucks did.

Savage, seem to be descent on review but never really shot one.
Try both bolts in a gun store.
Take particular note to how the bolt feels as you are opening and closing the bolt handle.

Most people will notice how clunky the savage action feels when you put them beside almost any other maker.

Savage 110 has much smoother bolt lift than the Savage Axis, or at least my old 110 does anyway.

                              That's partly due to age.
Older guns are almost always smoother than never guns, especially when comparing the bottom-price-tier models.
