30-30 or no?

Found a nice 30-30 while I was in Maine last week. Been thinking about it since; they'll ship(LL Bean in Freeport; never knew they had a large hunting section)

I've always stayed away from 30-30, because I'm not a fan of Win/Marlin 94 style rifle. They look cool, but I do not like shooting them much.

This one is a Savage 99 carbine in nice shape. I really like the look, feel, and shooting the 99's.

I already have two 99's in 300 Savage. I'd really like to get one in 250 Savage. But one in 30-30 would be kind of interesting...

I didn't know LL Bean had guns, I usually stop my trip at Kittery or Cabelas in Scarborough. A 99 in 250 Savage is high on my list, my 99 is in 300. Between the two I'd get the 99 in 30-30. Especially if you reload, since the rotary mag allows use of those nice pointy bullets.

If you have two 300 Savages you're not adding by getting the 30-30. Not all 99s are collectible as typically the newer ones chambered in the common calibers like 30-30, 243, 308, etc are not as desired.

Since you already have two 99s, hold out for something rare or different from your 300s at least, like a: .303 Savage, .32-40 Winchester, .25-35 Winchester, .250 Savage, .22 Hi Power, .22-250 Remington, .284 Winchester, .38-55 Winchester, .375 Winchester or the .410 shotgun

Id rather have one in another cartridge. 30-30 is great but a 300 Savage is better. Id love a 99 in 243.

The popular 7.62 x 51 NATO round, aka, .308 Winchester, and the .300 Savage cartridges are not the same, but darn close.

The .22 rimfire is legal to shoot a deer in at least one state that I know of. Not recommended but a legal shoot and it is used by some hunters. I would love to find a nice 25-35 in either the 99 or a Win 94 that is reasonable priced but most I have seen the owners want more than they are worth.

Yes!
Ballistically it's unimpressive to some by today's standards but the 30-30 round shines as a compact, fast hand handling hunting rig IMO.
From 1895 is been our first sporting ctg that's loaded exclusively for smokeless powder. Like the 45/70, you can load it up or down and it
has so much loading data for it. A cast bullet shooters dream for inexpensive shooting. Or hop it up and make the first one a jacked bullet in the pipe, followed by RN.
I say go for it.

Yes, the 7.62 used the 300 Savage as parent cartridge. Most of the work was to make it feed in machineguns better; slight shoulder and neck work.

The 250-3000(250 Sav) is the parent to the classic and popular 22-250.
