The 90gr bullets are not going to be much good for spotting of misses on steel targets past 600yds.
You might be right, but it doesn't seem all that much smaller than 6mm 105's.

The 6mm's have the same problem.
The guys shooting 6.5's are able to spot their 1000+ yd misses while the guys with 6mm's are often not able to spot their misses.
It is a huge issue if you don't know where your miss went as you don't know which way to correct...

Those 100gr bullets are hunting bullets, not target bullets.
Those are probably the same bullets that Lynn posted up the link to the midway blems.

You mean like more and more PRS pros moving to 6mm? Most competitions are using electronic hit indicators (i.e. Magnetospeed T1000) It will provide an budget entry level into local matches and PRS gas series. https://www.google.com/amp/www.thetr...ar-review/amp/

I know most are going to 6mm, because the vast majority of points are inside 800yds where you can see your misses and correct based on your spotting.

It's only the farther shots where the heavier recoiling 6.5's are helpful.

Spotting of impacts is not nearly as much of an issue for the shooter because the spotters call the impacts.
If you get an impact, you know your dope and windage were close enough.
It's when you do NOT get an impact that you REALLY want to know where that bullet went.

In those occaisions, the bigger splash in the dirt of the heavier bullets is helpful.
I shoot a 6mm and don't miss much, but when I do, I wish the bullet made a bigger splash.

That's what I said in the OP, 100 gr hunting bullets.

At least one bolt action rifle announced for the cartridge already.

Everybody buy rifles and ammo so it gets cheaper!!

I think I will stick with my 22-250AI. Lapua brass is nice, and cheap.

WRT barrels, can you just get an ordinary 5.56 barrel reamed to .224 Valkyrie?

                          No.

It's too short to "clean out" a 223 chamber.

Doh, it would have two shoulders.
