Advice on Sharps rifle

...Not sure how true this is but I read Pedersoli had a better barrel because they used modern methods to cut the rifling. Shiloh Sharps used the old school traditional method. The Pedersoli is cheaper and I'm pleased with it. The quality on both are very good.

Shiloh has a fully rebuilt and modernized Pratt & Whitney gang rifler that came from the original Springfield Armory in Mass. Does 6 (??) barrels at once. If the guy running it knows his stuff I would think it would be fairly hard to beat the quality.

Shiloh are probably top of the line that said I have a Pendersoli and love it mines a 45-70.

I don't own one, but by reputation the Pedersoli is the way to go if you don't want to wait for or can't afford a Shiloh. it's not like you would be giving up a Ferrari and "settling" for a Yugo. there are definitely sharps manufactures that would be the case, but from what I understand a pedersoli isn't one.

1was given a Sharps Shiloh rifle back in the late 80s as bonus for a job I had completed. It was a surprise bonus. The workmanship is drop dead gorgeous. Every detail on this rifle is unsurpassed. The person, who gave it to me, pulled some strings and ordered it special from Shiloh with a short turn around time. Must have cost him a fortune. I would have changed nothing other than chambering it for 45-110. Mine 45-70. My rifle is a safe queen. It is just too beautiful to utilize regularly. It came in a custom engraved Mahogany box. The rifle would be mounted on the wall of my man cave if I didn’t live in Kalifornia. I don’t know of Shiloh’s current builds but if they are even 50% as well manufactured as mine – I wouldn’t care about a few more $$$$, I would buy one and forget the rest.

I have always liked this style of rifle. But I find the "other" cartridges/calibers interesting.

But, unless you roll your own, the .45-70 ought to be enough for sits and giggles.

Thank you for the complements. When I try to describe this rifle to others when a conversation gravitates in that direction, no one believes me as to the craftsmanship that was put into this rifle until they see it. Pictures – The ones I am able to take - Just don’t do it any Justice. I’m glad I could share it.

Don't forget to look at C. Sharps. They make great rifles too. When I wanted a Sharps I checked out all the offerings and in my opinion C. Sharps were the nicest. Top quality made to order and more options that anyone could want. I chose 45-70 just because components for reloading are easy to find. I spent around $3800 and it is a beautiful rifle.

Yes, this is true. Although there is a following for the old"buffalo" cartridges, unless you handload, you wont find ammo.

Reminds me; I need to work on some 45-70 loads for Marlin 1895CB
