    Bolt action chassis gun options

I know there are lot so threads so please direct to a new one if I've missed one. I've read through a few here but haven't seen any 2017 versions that really encapsulates the current market.

I recently shot my buddies bolt action and realized I have a gaping hole in my collection.

I have narrowed it down to 6.5cm or 300wm, 7mm. So far 6.5cm is leading the pack in terms of veratility.

So I'll ask this hoping to not get too abused here. What's the best bang for your buck chassis rifle in 6.5cm? I know the Ruger precision is a solid rifle however a bit on the heavy side. From shot show reviewers the Bergarra BHP is highly recommended. Then we have Howa 1500 and Mossberg MVP LC too.

With all the options out there I've been leaning towards the Savage 10 Ashbury but a Remington 700 is the Glock of the bolt action world with it's customization options. I just don't want to have to spend $800 on a new chassis immediately then scope rings and glass.

So please help a guy out and steer me in the right direction. In terms of cost and aftermarket support that won't entirely break the bank, where should I be looking?

    Thanks in advance.

Eliseo universal with the pierce action.

frank: Wait a minute. There are more than one wizard? Is [are?] the wizard calibrated?

For relatively light weight look at the Savage Stealth on an MDT chassis. They might still have a $150 rebate on them. The Weatherby modular chassis looks like it's also on an MDT chassis. They are a little pricey and the barrel is a bit short though.

Actually for weight vs cost ratio the Mossberg MVP LC is a solid gun at only 8lbs ..... Everyone else with a metal chassis is 10lbs+- ..... The rem 700 comes in the same weight but has a plastic chassis.

The Savage Ashbury is actually heavier than the rpr... I'm looking for multi use not just range so lightweight actually intrigues me in regards to hunting and range versatility.

Anyone have any problems with the Mossberg?

I own a ruger precision and love/hate the thing..I decided last week to head to the gun store to handle a few other similar rifles. I'm really digging the tikka t3x tac a1.I held 5 or 6 different models but that one felt right. My second choice was the savage stealth evolution.I can't help with weight as I didn't really pay much attention to it.However I would advise to get hands on with a few to find the one that fits you before you buy.

This! Tikka Tac A1 is not light weight... but weight is our friend for target shooting. Come with 2 mag + 1 free mag with coupon.

Unless you are nutnfancy, run n gun with the Ruger precision, and #%^* about the weight.

Not afraid of weight, I have a 6.5 Grendel build that weighs in at 10.5 lbs with optics and tripod ....the Tikka is over 11lbs though without optic or tripod....

I'm trying to go lighter for this bolt action so I could possibly hunt with it but I'm not afraid to hunt the 6.5g... it just limits my hunting abilities to smaller game.

I have no intentions of running and gunning with it though. I have a lightweight 3gun AR already and it's perfect for what it is.

Got it. Save the money and buy a Tikka CTR. Use the left over fund and get a KRG chassis.

You have target and hunting solution with one gun, one scope

What you might want to consider is for example a chassis, like an MDT ESS or something like that, that you can put a barreled action of your choice in, and be free to change your mind about it later in terms of cartridge.

The thing is, the long range game is often the realm of the 243, 260, and 6.5, but then you're looking at a new barrel with some regularity. In contrast, a 308 lasts much longer, but isn't quite in that league.

If you've got a chassis with some flexibility, then as your interests change, it can be as simple as just a barrel swap, i.e., you're not locked in to any one thing.

Just ran across the howa precision rifle.Looks like the 6.5 creedmoor weighs in at 7.4 pounds, with a street price around $675.00.

Uh, why are you worrying about weight with a chassis system?
