It's a great round. Can't go wrong with it for most North American game. If you don't have a hunting rifle then it's a great choice.

For me, it all comes down to adding one more caliber to the arsenal. Me personally, I'd love to get a 7-08. The 243 is just a 6-08. Did anyone ever try to make a 6.5-08 commercially viable. Because that would be awesome

The ruger American compact comes in both. I'm leaning hard towards one of those in the 18" variety. Shorter, lighter weight hunting rifle.

But for me the problem is that even though I reload and all, it's just more investment in other gear. I already have 2 bolt '06's and 2 garands. And with the ammo clusterf*** coming in a few months, well...

They're not liberals, they're leftists. Please don't use the former for the latter. Liberals are Locke, Jefferson, Burke, Hayek. Leftists are progressives, Prussian state-socialists, fascists. Liberals stand against the state and unequivocally support liberty. Leftists support state tyranny.

My favorite hunting gun is the Ruger RSI International.
Decent accuracy, short and light with a 18.5" barrel. Have one in 22-250, 243 and 308. The 22-250 and 243 make a good fireballs with the short barrel!!

I’ve always had a soft-spot for .243. Great round. I had my first “precision” rife chambered in .243 by Randall (AR-15 Barrels) with a 1/8 twist barrel.

Hard to go wrong with .243.
You will never, in your life, have a chance like this again.
If I were you, I would not pass this up. I would not let this go by...this is rare.
              Come on...what harm??

I use a .243 for target shooting. I like the caliber. Has a little punch but manageable (and IMO more enjoyable than a .308). Can get to 600 yards comfortably using either 80 or 100gr factory ammo (maybe a little farther with my $425 Mossberg Patriot - 22" barrel).

I haven't found any cons other than what I've read from other posts. Mainly the barrel is good for about 2,000 rounds before it shows signs of losing some accuracy (YMMV).

Don't forget the 35-08 (358 Winchester) and the wildcat 25-08 (25 Souper) was popular during the 60's .
