Not so hard recoil, flat shooter, deer drop now. Ammo plentiful. Many makes
      and types of rifles.

Good hunting caliber. My rifle works well with the 80 grn.Barnes TTSX. I believe using the all copper bullets for hunting allows for using a smaller caliber and lighter weight bullets than would have been previously used.

The only negative with the 243 is its limited use for bigger game. Dont let anyone scare you about "short barrel life" or "lacks stopping power" etc. I have several different 243 it's one of my favorite cartridges.

I like it. Put together an AR10 DPMS style rifle in it. Need to fine tune it and start hunting coyotes and pigs!

The only con would be you would want a 8 twist barrel and factory rifles usually have 10 twist barrels.

The pros and cons would depend on what you want to do with the rifle.

Pro - It will blow up jack rabbits at ridiculous distances.
Con- It's iffy for grizzly bear

What do you want to do with it?
One of my precision long range rifles is a 243.
It's a great long range cartridge with a proper 1:8 twist barrel.

This Ruger Varminter 243 almost has an 8 twist barrel. https://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/...MINTER+243+WIN

Your gun safe is incomplete without a .243.

Unless you have a 6mm Remington.
