What would be a way to measure the "slop" in such a savage rifle?Correct.

The bolt head fits sloppy within the bolt so that if the lugs in the receiver are not square, the bolt head can lean over to make contact.
When this occurs, the cartridge case head is not supported square to the barrel/chamber though, unless the barrel also happens to be crooked on the receiver in the same direction as the lugs.NRA Range Safety Officer pistol and reloading instructor

I still agree that buying a Ruger RPR 6.5 Creedmoor is the way to to get your feet wet in the game. Wait for up coming sales of $1099, buy a good quality scope with the same quality rings ( 20moa base comes with RPR so you can add that into price savings) and a case of Prime 130gr 6.5 Creedmoor ammo and learn to shoot.Comment

Or....(shameless plug)...you could just by this rifle from me and be done with it:
.Bring hay for my horse....wine for my men....and mud for my turtle!
What do you hear ???...... Nothing but the rain. Well grab your gun and bring in the cat.
