    How To Improve

Yes just don't let the barrel get to hot...I'm not sure what to hot is though for your barrel... .830 isn't a small or pencil barrel.

I agree with Lynn...I'm a fast shooter...if I try to take my time it usually cost me...in our long range varmint matches you have 3 minute to engage 5 targets I normally end up with at least a minute left.

I think that given my service rifle background, I might be a little quick on the trigger, too.

Another question just popped into my head. I've seen it go both ways, but what are ya'lls opinions on putting Loctite Blue 242 on the action screws and the scope base screws?

Also, the bushings that came with my M5 DBM, do those need to be epoxied into the stock or do they stay loose?

          Loctite the scope base screws.
Do not Loctite the action screws.
The pillars should absolutely be epoxied into the stock.
The screws should not touch the pillar.
Job of the pillar is for the receiver to rest on it when the action screws are tightened through the bottom metal.
If the pillar is floating, your action is floating too.
The recoil lug should handle recoil.
At no time should the action screws be touching the insides of the pillar and handling recoil.

That explains a bit.....I left mine loose as I thought they were just spacers....

So, took the rifle back to the range, bottom target was on bags, top target was bipod/rear bag, both from a bench. One thing I can see, my trigger control blows. Also, I need to find a better way to keep the buttstock firmly in my shoulder, sometimes when I'd shoot, I felt like the rifle wild jump a little and throw off my POI. Regardless, I think I've found the correct sequence: preload bipod, find npoa, slow steady squeeze. I need to practice way more with that last part, though. I do believe, however, since the first groups I posted, there is some mild improvement. So, thank you all for all of your advice, and I'll just keep practicing

Don't feel too bad: 308 Winchester recoil isn't excruciating or unmanageable, but shooting 50+ rounds, even out of a heavy target rifle, does wear on the shooter a bit. You get fatigued and lose concentration.

Just another reason the 6mm and 6.5mm cartridges are so popular now. You can shoot 100 rounds and still feel pretty fresh.

Adding a muzzle brake to your rifle will allow you to spot your impacts more easily and reduce shooting fatigue.

I don't think I'd be able to use a brake in F-Class TR, so I didn't think it'd be prudent to practice with it.

I think you are doing well. If I may make a suggestion, probably get flamed for it but here it goes.
A while back, I had a 700pss that I bought back in the 80's. I practiced and practiced with it and even learned how to hand load while I had that rifle. My dad said, hey after all these years, you still can't close up those groups. He handed me his 308 which is a custom that Jones' Fort built for him. I was able to shoot much better with it. Similar stock, and barreled action only with a Douglas barrel.

Years later, after raising kids, I sent my rifle off to R&D Precision and asked for a Maverick package. Got it back and it shot like a whole different rifle with factory ammo. He set the barrel back and recut the chamber, re-crowned it, bed the barreled action, adjusted the trigger and re-finish. It was worth the $500 or so plus shipping. I still shoot that rifle today.

So I think for little money, bed the barreled action and adjust or replace the trigger, you can shrink those groups up along with some dry fire exercises at home. Start off with a quarter at the end of your barrel, and dry fire and work your way up to a dime. That helped me out. As another member mentioned, let someone else shoot your rifle. That way you can figure out who or what needs the help. I usually let people shoot my rifles. People I do not know because there is always someone around that is a stellar marksman in which I am not.

Maybe only bring ou 20 to 30rounds. I only bring 20 to 40 rounds with me so I make every shot count. I am getting older and becoming more recoil sensitive so I usually shoot 20 myself and others shoot the other 10 or so somewhere in between my shots.

                      Hope this helps a little.

For F-TR you are fine as is. Looks like you're holding an inch, so lets get you to come out to a Midrange shoot with us at Camp Pendleton.

I've qualified on Wilcox enough times to know that I hated the crosswind there with an M16. But I have been meaning to go to a match. I've just felt that I need to become a better shooter first. And I'll check out the Burbank Rifle Revolver Club.

Yah, that 10:30 Wilcox Express comes in and plays havoc sometimes. At least it's a steady 4-1/2 MOA wind by the end of the day...
