For bench rest, why not go for a heavier longer barrel for the added velocity because you're not moving. But for tactical PRS where weight is a factor, 22in is plenty long for shooting 1k.

I've seen benchrest shooter with 30" barrels shooting 308

If you think that 22" is enough than you need to try to convince the PRS shooters since following your guidelines they are all wrong

Now what will you be doing with the 1500 yard targets in PRS matches with your 22" barrel

And you mentioned earlier that you don't need Flat Line bullets for 1000 yards

Let me be the rookie once more but I think you might run into trouble with your configurations

Check PRB and you will see that most shoot with a 26" barrel

Might be a reason for the 26" barrels

    And if weight is a problem . . . work out . . . loose weight . . . or get a fully carbon fiber build rifle

    A few options but not many . . .

Yes, most shoot 26 in barrels but not all, there Pro PRS shoters that shoot 22 in barrels. None use 30 in barrels. Here is and article on testing a 22in 6.5 CM that only lost 60fps velocity with a supressor and he had a lighter more mobility with thr shorter barrel. To claim that a 22in 6.5 CM or even a 308 can't shoot 1000 yrds is just incorrect information. http://precisionrifleblog.com/2013/0...zzle-velocity/

Cutting 4" off the barrel and then adding 7" to 10" of suppressor does not make it lighter or more maneuverable.

That essentially means he only has 2/10 more vertical adjustment of a mil at 1,000 yards, and wind drift is virtually identical. In return he has a more maneuverable rifle … and he couldn’t be more happy with that trade.
