Bergara B14 HMR vs Tikka T3 CTR

Hi, I'm looking to get my first 308 bolt action. I want to get the Bergara B14 HMR but I've been doing a bit of research and it seems like the Tikka T3 is the way to go just because it's such a proven rifle and has a track record that the Bergara doesn't? So far, I've seen nothing but good things about the Bergara B14s performance wise and value wise, but it seems like very few people has had experience with Bergaras and there isn't much solid info floating around compared to the Tikkas.

I'll be shooting for groups at 100-200yards most of the time because the ranges around me only go up to 200yards max, of course once I get better, I'd like to push out further and hit some steel plates, see what my rifle and I can do. For now, I just want to make sure I get a quality rifle out of the box that I can mount a quality scope on and practice practice practice.

Hum, buyers remorse already....

Get a T3 if you are an occasional shooter who like a good proven value, get the Bergara if you are adventurous. But only get them if your done once you buy them.

If your really not sure were or will end up think about the 700 platform, it is like an AR

The B14 HMR is a short action 700 with a coned bolt instead of a "3 rings" 700 design.
Uses 700 stocks, triggers and scope bases etc...

I don't have plans on making any modifications to the rifle, not until I know what I'm doing, but definitely good to know there are a lot of options for the B14 HMR (since it's basically a Remington 700 clone, correct?).

For now, I just want a good rifle that I can put a good scope on and go out to practice with. My main concern is, are there any advantages of getting one over the other performance wise, such as Reliability and Accuracy? Or is this just one of those, "you can't go wrong with either type of deal".

If you want to use it as a target rifle, make sure it comes with a heavy barrel.

The Tikka CTR's with heavy barrels are going to be similarly priced to the Bergara, but have a much smaller aftermarket support and use proprietary $150 magazines compared to $35 Magpul AICS mags that the Bergara uses.

I bought a Tikka CTR solely for use in a KRG chassis and it works great.

Wasn't aware of the bergara until now but I would have certainly considered it. Looks like a good value.

Ended up getting the T3X CTR in 24" after they were introduced this year at Shot. The Bergara rifles do look like a good bang for the buck and knowing that it uses Remington 700 accessories is a plus.

Thanks for all the input guys, Seems like you can't really go wrong with either one so I went with the Bergara B14 HMR. Can't wait to get it setup and take it out to the fields.

The new model T3 ejection port is bigger than the old one but is still smaller than a Remington 700, M70, etc.
