The key thing with scopes is durability. I had a cheap Bushnell scope come apart on my .30-06 during a hunting trip and had to borrow my buddy's rifle. For a range gun, it's no big deal. If you're hunting and the scope comes apart, you may be SOL.
I have a Leupold on my .30-06 and it's fine, though I sorta wish I'd gotten a BDC reticle. I have Vortex scopes on two other rifles with BDC reticles and so far I'm quite happy with them. What I like about the BDC reticles is the ease of figuring holdover, though I could probably manage just fine without them if I got more practice at greater than 100 yards.
You'll also find the turrets have a better feel on more expensive scopes. When you have to adjust them, the "click" is better.
You might also look for deals. I bought one Vortex scope on eBay and got the other one at a closeout.
