Randal, come on.... you got to be the last guy who would spend 1,000 for a Remington 5R that might have a straight bore, rather than getting a doner action and having a good smith like you spin a real custom on with the twist, quality exact profile you wanted for just a couple extra bucks.

I don't think the Grayboe is superior, I know the Manners Elite Carbon is superior. I said thats what I would do. Personally I'd save the money and go with the drop in.The Op looks to be sporting a $300+ BT46-LW17, McMillian A5? (small image) with LP AND ACR, with a ton of smith work. He also mentioned that money is not an issue.
So he wants a lighter system, the single best place to save 2 pounds is the stock. Why do you think the Graybroe is superior to the Manners Hunter Elite Carbon stock ?Comment

Remington MODEL 700 MOUNTAIN SS
Keep the decent factory stock on this one, add a Kydex cheek piece (like a Karsten Model B) or stock pack to get the proper cheek weld when using your scope.
6.5 pound rifle, 2.5 pound optics, around 10 pounds including sling and ammo sounds good to me.
The heavy barrel contour of the 5R models is great for target shooting, but I don't think it's ideal for big game hunting, where you might hike for hours and attempt one shot if you're lucky.Comment
