I get mine out of Jail tomorrow

I've been considering adding a Henry to my collection. I'm tempted to go with a rifle chambered in 357 because I own a revolver and I can share ammo. Though I'd enjoy some feedback from those who own one, shot one, etc. just if there is a downside to this caliber for said rifle, or recommendations.

They're just such fun classic guns and I'd love to have one. Consider it a range toy.

I just picked up the exact one you're thinking of at Discount Gun Mart for a $77o. I love shooting this rifle! If you shoot .38 SPL out of it you really have to wonder if the bullet came out. There is probably less kick than a .22LR with .38SPL. Mine has the brass receiver and it looks beautiful. I just need to get a revolver to match.

The rifle is really accurate, too. Shot on the Discount pistol range at the Magnolia store and at 50 feet I was shooting consistently in the bullseye with just the iron sights out of the box.

Also looking into a Henry in.357. Sorry for the newbie question, but is there a bullet type that the Henry likes, doesn't like? I know no pointed bullets, but I've seen some many different types of rounds referred to JHP, JSP, RNFP, truncated cone, wad cutters and the list goes on. Thanks in advance.

I just bought one but haven't had a chance to shoot it yet. Very nice firearm, well made. It is a tube loader so you don't get to load through the side gate (you can toss a round in the chamber when the action is open) if that is an issue. The proper way of loading through the tube is to un-cock the trigger, and then open and load the tube. Turning the tube cap is a bit tough but I expect it to loosen up as it gets use. To someone standing near by this would look fairly precarious, standing the rifle on its butt stock and having your hand near the barrel while loading. The guy at the store told me to load it with the action open but this is not what Henry says.

But the quality of the rifle is very good which is why I chose it over a Marlin. Beautifully finished. Like you, I chose .357 so it matches up with my GP-100.

The local Walmart has a couple three Henrys. Can they shoot lead semi-wadcutters? Or do they need jacketed?

Tube loaders are supposed to be more friendly with wad cutters.

Henry's have great build quality...I just wish they made a side loading gate rather than tube feed

Yeah that to me is the only thing I wish Henry had was a side gate feed. On the 22 no big deal, but on the big bore rifles it would be nice. Small issue considering the beautiful guns and great customer service of Henry.

True. I guess if I wanted an affordable all weather 45-70 it would be the Henry. The other options are twice the price
