Henry Big Boy

I've been considering adding a Henry to my collection. I'm tempted to go with a rifle chambered in 357 because I own a revolver and I can share ammo. Though I'd enjoy some feedback from those who own one, shot one, etc. just if there is a downside to this caliber for said rifle, or recommendations.

They're just such fun classic guns and I'd love to have one. Consider it a range toy.

I'm in the same boat. I want a big boy as well, but other priorities have me leaning to a rossi. No downfalls of this caliber that I can think of. Easy to reload as well!

JS41989, I don't own a Henry Big Boy (I do own an H001) but I do own a couple other .357 lever guns. The only downside I can think of is that their so fun to shoot I find my self running out of ammo.

If one of those "other .357 lever guns" is a Marlin 1894, I'd be happy to take it off your hands...all in the interest of helping you ease the issue of depleting your ammo supply to quickly, of course.

Have a Henry Big Boy in 45LC, because I have a pistol in the same caliber. The Henry is a great rifle and it is a blast to shoot with the same rounds as my pistol.

First things first: I don't keep up with the sales on Gunbroker or any of the other sites, so I can't say whether this is a good deal. But from what I've seen the $900 this guy is asking for a JM, pre-cross-bolt safety '94 (1980) is reasonable.

I have been in contact with him but I just can't swing another rifle purchase right now financially (I had just popped for one of the "like new" SKS's from J&G).

For what it is worth, I have been treated 100% fairly by all of the Cowboy Action Shooters I have ever dealt with, whether it is for used leather goods or used firearms. I have not dealt with this cowboy previously, but as a whole these folks are good and honest people. YMMV. He is in the state of WA but he made no mention of any issues shipping to a CA buyer in our emails.

To the O.P.: I absolutely love pistol caliber carbines and rifles and my very top 2 favorites are 38SP/357MAG for lever guns and 40 S&W for auto loaders.

A good reason to get into reloading before the ammo restrictions next year.

There is a Storm coming my fellow Cal Guns members. Get going on a Dillon
Press. Stock up on components. Do this before the Frenzy.

Right now we are in the calm period. This will change. Focus on the end game.

Been wanting to go 357 lever action + revolver. Would like to reload with Hornaday's FTX flex tip bullets but at 35 cents each ... dang!!

Anyone else make a similar bullet at a reasonable price. I know flat point bullets are suitable for tube feed but the flex tip adds a bit of safety in case I load a high primer.

Those things are crazy money right now. I'm a 92 guy but I do like Henry, I do like tube fed guns and they do have the best customer service ever.

There's nothing wrong with the Rossi's if you don't mind getting your hands dirty a little. That 20" Rossi I have is a tack driver. I never thought I would see a pistol cartridge lever gun shoot so well out to 100 yards.

Bob, please suggest a starter press for me. I figure .357 to start, maybe a year with that and then move on. The Dillon is a little more then I want to spend right now. My retirement date is Feb, 1 2017..Yes, nest Tuesday

My brother bought a Henry Big Boy in .357 to compliment his revolver. That gun is beautiful, buttery smooth action, and a soft shooter! I really like the octagon barrel too!

The Henry Big Boy Steel is no slouch. Has the best walnut stock I have ever seen.

I think the Big Boy (brass) might have as sweet an action as I have tried. It was at a LGS, so just went through the motions.

That said, I ended up buying an old Marlin, just kinda fell into my lap.

Yep, .357/38 Spcl. Big Boy Steel owner here.
I love it.
The Brass model is nice but is 1.5 pounds heavier.
It is quite noticeable when holding both of them.

Yes. consider reloading. .357 mag ammo runs close to $.50 a round and you can do that for 1/2 the price or better. The startup costs for reloading will ultimately pay for itself.

Another Henry .357 BB Steel owner chiming in. The rifles are quality through and through and a joy to shoot. They are also scope ready from the factory.
