Muzzle Break on Remington 700

Was looking for a way to ease up the recoil on my Remington 700 (.308) and after doing some research I have it down to two options. Does anyone have experience with these? Positive and negative feedback are welcome. I know to some a muzzle break on a .308 is unnecessary, but its what I want so yay.

I'd pick the M11 because of the top ports.

Also I WOULD THINK that the flat face on the baffles would help not direct back pressure directly at the shooter (at least compared to the M4-72).

But no crush washer? really? That's interesting. But OK....

I found that interesting as well. When I mentioned that to my gunsmith he gave me a sideways stare.

Not that 20 degrees is necessarily alot, but it's kind of alot if you end up there, too.

You have a smith? No matter then. He can time the brake to the rifle, no washer needed.

I would get the M72.

The M72 has a lower profile than the M11.

Also, the M72 has no ports on the top, but counteracts muzzle rise by biasing the side ports upward so that their centers are at 2 and 10 o'clock.

Notice that the solid bottom is wider than the solid top of the M72 brake. This intentional imbalance creates the downward force to counteract muzzle rise.

They sell a SET of 18 shims in all different thicknesses.
You buy 18 shims and you use ONE of them.

They work fine, but are excessively expensive for the job they do.
Buy a shim set from Surefire instead.
If you had me install it, I have a whole box of shims so you would not even need to buy any shims.

I think the M4 looks a little cleaner. I have the BOSS system on a 270 and 7mag that work well. I like the adjustable feature.

Another option if your using your smith and want the brake timed and blended is,

They are cheap and extremely effective. Think of them as an 80% brake that will be finished by your smith.
