The only one I want is the one I have. Browning 92. Lovely gun.
weg: That device is obsolete now. They replaced it with wizards.
frank: Wait a minute. There are more than one wizard? Is [are?] the wizard calibrated?

Yeah, I'm probably going to buy one of these in 2017:

That looks amazing! I just wish Henry would make some side loading models...

It drives me crazy that no one but Rossi (only in the .454 Casull) makes levers with both a loading port AND a magazine rod.

I'd buy a .357 Henry in a heartbeat if it also had a loading port. I'd also love a .357 Rossi or Winchester with tubular loading included.

My grandfather has a Winchester 94 TE in 357 Mag that he has had for 25-30 years and it is still the tack driver it was when he first bought it. I have the same one in 45 Colt for about 15 years and love it is well. I don't now how they have been since being bought out but something I would consider.

I know, right? Make them in stainless with poly furniture and you've got a perfect truck/boat/cabin gun because they are takedown. The .357 is no joke out of a carbine barrel.

Sold! I'll take two: one in .357 and the other in .44.

                  Bobby Ricigliano

A lever gun in .357 / .38 will be my first long gun purchase of 2017. This thread came at the perfect time.

**Edit** My first lever gun ever!
Congrats, Bobby. You'll ask yourself, "What took me so long?!"

tmh1's post is indeed excellent, and his lever collection seems to grow every month. Well done, sir!

The exception to his otherwise fine info would be that the SASS/CAS guys have the Marlin 1894s running faster and more reliably than the Win '92 designs...

I need to take a current photo of my five levers. I've a .22 Magnum Henry H001M, my least favorite of the five due to their blocky feeling. Henrys are good guns, yes, but they're lacking a certain soul...

The other four are, in order of their acquisition, a 16" Rossi '92 in .357, an 18" Marlin 1894CS357, a 20" Browning '92 in .44 Mag and my latest, a 20" Marlin 1894FG in .41 Magnum.

As for the preference for the straight stocks or the pistol-grip/palm swell buttstocks, that palm swell-style of stock has been around since the 1870s, so either stock style suits a levergun from a period-accurate-style standpoint.

When you have the opportunity to first fire your new lever carbine, avail yourself of a range that has steel silhouettes because few shooting endeavors are more fun than ringing steels with every round from a levergun.
                  .

Farmerjoe, I considered various lever guns and basically came down to either a Henry or a Rossi. Ultimately bought a Rossi 92 stainless steel carbine.

Here was my thought process in choosing that.
Cost - Rossi was less expensive

Weight - wanted something light. Rossi had a carbine version that's maneuverable and light. Henry was heavy. I had a regular length Rossi, but returned it for the carbine.

Loading - side loading gate vs tube fed. Henry is tube fed and Rossi has a side loading gate. I already had a lot of tube fed lever guns so wanted to try something different. Also, I liked the idea of being able to top off the mag without having to pull out the rod. Downside is, Rossi's loading gate is stiff and rough; I cut few inches off the spring and smoothed out the gate. Shortening the spring gave me 2 more round capacity, which was a plus.

                    Reliability: They're both reliable.
                    Craftsmanship: They're both fine.

Thanks guys, I'm headed out tomorrow to take a look. I'l see what I can find, but I'm leaning towards the Marlin or Rossi. Although I don't know what I'll find with the markets as screwy as they are.

Joe, if you find a 357 Marlin I'd buy it on the spot.

That's my thought. I'm hoping everyone blew their money on AR's and the like the last few weeks and that theirs something out there.

Joe, where in the IE you? I haven't seen a Rossi in the IE since Big5 sold all what was left of their 44 mag.
Ask Jamie or Sandra at 2Azone if they have any in stock. If not ask them to order one for you.

Out in Lake Elsinore. I was going to head to Faith Armory and The Shootist and see what I can find. I'm interested in what The Shootist has on the used rack.

In two pages of threads, the name Uberti only came up 5 times, some of it in quoted text.

I'm sure they are fine guns, maybe not as popular? I've had my eye on a Trapper Carbine, but just haven't bit the bullet and pulled the trigger.
