      The magazine retention system came loose 2 times on my gun and I had to buy a new magazine catch clip and leaf spring. That solved the problem but I am sure it will eventually happen again.

      As for 7.62x39 vs. 223. I'm on the fence about that now. What I really like about 223/5.56 is the ability to shoot a variety of loads. However, keep in mind that the 527 has a 1/9 twist so that limits you to 69 grain and lighter bullet weights.
      I once paid $130 for a CZ 550 .308 ten round mag just to have it along with the four round mag.

      ETA I would love a X39, especially in left hand although it wouldn't matter. I also have a CZ Ultra Lux in .22lr. The fit and finish is amazing, like the 550 American in .308

            I've got a .223 CZ527 Carbine (1:9 twist) with a 3-9x32mm scope. Here are some results gathered while zeroing the scope.

            25 yds

            50 yds

            100 yds (called the flier)

              I have one in 17 Hornet and it's a very decent gun that shoots well.
              If your wanting to save a few coins 223 ammo is pretty cheap compared to 17 Hornet.

                In for 762, a 30 cal round , less expensive as well. Beautiful.

                  At100 yards,a 7.62 is over kill and more expensive. But 100 yards won't last. You'll be bored in a month. 200,300, 400, and so on, you'll keep stretching it out. Then you'll wish you bought the 7.62 NATO. There are a few other interesting caliber based on the 308 case that are also interesting .243 Win and 6.5 Creedmore come to mind.
                  If you find yourself in a fair fight, you're doing it all wrong.

                    The Creedmor is not based off the 308 case. You may have been referring to the 260 remington.

                    As far as I know these are based off the 308 case: 243 Win, 260 Rem, 7mm-08 Rem, and 338 federal.

                    You are correct though...he will be bored shooting at 100 after a few months.

                      Perhaps he meant to say it is based on the 308 bolt face...
                      The 6.5 Creedmoor uses the same action, bolt face and magazines as a 308.
                      308 brass CAN be made into 6.5 creedmoor brass, though it is more work than it is worth when proper 6.5 creedmoor brass can simply be purchased.
                      All that is required to change a 308 into a 6.5 creedmoor is a new barrel.

                        Pick whichever floats your boat, steel cased ammo is cheap for both of them (slightly cheaper for .223 than 7.62x39 according to ammoseek.com at the moment).

                        If you think you might want to reload someday, get the .223 to make life easier/cheaper for you.

                        Unless you think you might want to reload and cast your own bullets one day, in which case the .312ish cast lead bullet will be more pleasant to cast than .225ish (from what I hear), albeit more expensive since you'll use roughly double the amount of lead.

                          Id go with 7.62x39
                          Good for;
                          Hunting
                          Shooting silhouettes out to 500 mtrs if you try.
                          Easy to reload (use 150 grain speer/hornady bullets)
                          Yugo m67 surplus is most accurate and cheap.
                          Mild recoil.

                          .223 is;
                          Not allowed in silhouette
                          Hunting big game is out.
                          Ok for paper out to 300 mtrs
                          Varmint hunting is ok.
                          Easy to reload but dont know about twist or heavy bullet performance.

                            I wouldn't go past 300 yards, 500 meters or 550 yards is a LONG way for this round. 10 foot drop at 500 yards. not that good. LOL
                            All of them do something better than the 30-06, but none of them do everything as well.

                              I have one in 762. I love it. So far only iron sights, it's a great truck/brush gun.

                                From what I hear the S&W barrel extension is proprietary but can be reused for a new barrel.
