    Cz 527

Looking at the Cz 527'. For shooting at range out to 100 yards

    223 or 7.62???

Any comments on which cal. To shoot at paper will help me out.

    Thanks

223 potentially more accurate. 7.62x39 might be cheaper to shoot. Trying to trade or sell one myself.

I forget what twist rate the 223 one is, but I remember the older ones being 1:12?

7.62x39 is good for hunting or shooting steel case ammo. .223 would be better for target shooting and can fire 5.56 too! Here's the CZ USA info on CZ 527 carbine.

Would love to get both but will probably buy the .233 first.

I would suggest the .223 over the russian short. The CZ offers two barrel profiles for the .223, a lighter barrel, and a varmint version with a heavier barrel, both with a twist rate of 1:9 which will stabilize up to a 69 grain projo. Don't know if you reload, if you do great, if you do not, then Federal makes gold medal match ammo with a sierra 69gr, which will functions at the top of the range for factory box ammo. Whichever you choose, you can be sure that the 527 is the best of breed for the mini Mauser action, and has quite the following in the small caliber world.

100 yards? Why not just use a Mosin? ;-) CZ527 in .223 loves it out at around 300-400 yards a lot better, actually makes it a challenge. Mine.

Do you have any others in either caliber?

I've been eying them (7.62x39) for a while now since I already have a good amount of 7.62 (and no 223).

If you do, get whichever compliments the ammo you already have. And then let me know how you like it

              Depends:

If I had a bunch of AK, I'd get the 7.62

If I had a bunch of AR, I'd get the 223

              If I wanted a 300 BO rebarrel, I'd get the 223

              If I wanted a 6.5 grendel rebarrel, I'd get the 7.62

If I wanted to irons shoot at 100 yards only, I could go either way

If I wanted to scope shoot at 400 yards, I would probably (probably) be inclined to get the 223.

              etc... etc.... etc....

I used to have a 527 in 7.62x39. My biggest gripe with it was were the super expensive magazines and the magazine retention system.

The magazines cost upwards of $50 each. For sheet metal mags that's ridiculous.

The magazine retention system came loose 2 times on my gun and I had to buy a new magazine catch clip and leaf spring. That solved the problem but I am sure it will eventually happen again.

As for 7.62x39 vs. 223. I'm on the fence about that now. What I really like about 223/5.56 is the ability to shoot a variety of loads. However, keep in mind that the 527 has a 1/9 twist so that limits you to 69 grain and lighter bullet weights.

If only there were a way to modify them for AK magazines...

The twist rate is whatever you want after you send it to pacnor for a new barrel

(threaded barrel, new cartridge, special contour, whatever you want. )

I got my 7.62x39 used a few months ago. I am very happy with it. I do get an occasional light primer strike, but it's not too frequent. Its light, reasonably accurate for x39, has a great trigger and the action is really slick. It's one of my favorites to shoot.

                      Good luck!

I love my CZ in 762 carbine. perfect brush gun for deer and hogs and cheap to shoot at paper at 100 yards.
IF I went 223, then I'd go with little longer barrel for target practice as you can use the 223 for 300, 400 yards. Same price or cheaper you can get a tikka in 223 with 1:8 twist and thank me later.
All of them do something better than the 30-06, but none of them do everything as well.

I have the 527 Varmint above in .223, I'd love to have one in 7.62 also, both good calibers although to shoot brass cased reloadable 7.62x39 gets expensive, the bullets are expensive compared to .223.

This. Noticed the same primer strikes. Time to giver her a good cleaning. Great brush gun.

If a hundred yards is all you want, then neither

They are fine rifles and the Russian ought to be a good deer caliber at 200+ yards.
