The nice things is you can take it off or put it on whenever. So your not locked in to use it all the time. Though I would think the zero will change a bit, just something to keep track of.

That was my initial thought. But at 10lbs + scope + ammo this is more of a stationary firing position gun, so why not brake it since hearing is not needed so much in that situation? Few guys are going to be hunting and hiking 10 miles in the mountains with it, which is where the disadvantage of a bake is. (Need keen senses while spotting and stalking.)

The heavier the muzzle device, the more it effects the harmonics of the barrel and therefore the barrels load preference.
You can account for the change by re-developing a load for the barrel with the brake attached.

SO, tell us how well she shoots, skyline! The RPR was a smart move by Ruger, filling a missing niche in their offerings.

Do you think competitors do anything just to be cool? They use whatever works to win. Period.

Do you think older shooters or shooters with chronic injuries do anything just to be cool? They use whatever works to lessen recoil. Period.

Do hunters alone in the field care if they look cool? They use whatever works to keep their eyes on the target in hopes they don't lose sight of their prey and/or need a dreaded follow-up shot. Period.

There are very good reasons to run a brake/comp. Learn why and perhaps you'll become a better shooter yourself.

Hey man that's what all the young guys around here are saying. I'm fully aware of the functionality a muzzle break brings to the rifle in all aspects of shooting. I should have added a "?" at the end of my sentence to clear up the misinterpretation it has caused.

                Howdy Skyline,

I agonized over this as well. I made the best choice (for me)

This post summarizes the eye-opening results for the massive muzzle brake field test I’ve worked on the past few months. It included several objective tests to quantify the performance of 20+ muzzle brakes designed for precision rifles in 6mm through 30 caliber. My goal with this project was to equip fellow long-range shooters with as ...

What is important to you? IMO, brakes are obnoxious. So I weight noise at the shooter's position as very important.

Take a look at those results. There is one option that is near the top for effectiveness at recoil reduction, and also near the top for reasonable noise performance. Nice too that it hits near the bottom of the price scale.

I put a tri-delta on my RPR. I am very, very happy with the decision.

                --------------

Is the little bastard more effective for recoil reduction? totally. so is the JP eliminator. but the tri delta does really really well, and that it can do it without making things concussive at the shooter's position is just great design, IMO. I also bought one at half price because it was the wrong threads and popped my 5/8-24 tap through it, so I have one and a backup too.

Good luck with your choice. Like others say, these cartridges just don't recoil like a safari rifle. You can't go wrong with any reasonable choice, you'll get that little bit more.

Just received my two brakes from Nathan at muzzlebrakesandmore.com. He has a bunch of different sizes and versions and can do a custom contour or taper for just a few bucks more. He has videos testing them against the APA brake shows his to be slightly more effective though the difference is probably not something you'd feel at the range making the value even greater. I did have to put it on my lathe to time it but for the price they were a steal. Can't wait to put some rounds through them come Saturday.

Well as my pappie used to say, "if you can't beat 'em, get what they have but bigger and beat 'em".
I was set up at the range with my 7.62x39 AR with a VG6 Gamma on it when some guys came and set up next to me with a hunting rifle. They later commented that it must be horrible on a weekend... but there was space farther away, not sure why they set up right next to me.

They hit the target (maybe 2' square at 100yd) but didn't manage to hit the 12" Shoot N See they had on it...

PT Tactical in Westminster has what they call an X-Brake. It is like a Lantac Dragon Brake but they re-flowed it in an aircraft manufacturing facility. They are unbelievable. I have 4 now. I have one on MY MEGA ARMS AR10 that is up for sale. The Brakes are spectacular. HUGE reduction in recoil. $85, any cerakote color.
