Which should i choose? San diego ca

So im deciding between one of two rifles anguy is selling, a savage axis in .223 or a remington 873 in .300 winMag, just looking for a target shooting rifle, i have had the axis combo in 2012 in .30-06 and really didnt like how light the rifle was as far as recoil handling etc.

What experiances you guys have? I dont believe the axis i had was the axis 2 or what the difference really is.

You do NOT want a 300 win mag for a target rifle.
If your only two options (for some off reason) are the two rifles above, then you would want the 223.
WHY are you limited to only those two rifles?
There are other people/places that sell rifles...

Because i guy is offering one as a trade along with a mosin nagant for a gun im selling, he has a rem 783 in .300 win mag and .223 savage so just wondering which of the two is probably better and now that i think of it .223 is more economical etc.

Just food for thought, but a new Savage Axis is only like $350 OTD. I don't think they have a lot of trade value.

I am assuming this is in the trade for your Glock 35 posting. Honestly, return it to stock and sell it and the upgrades separate. It might take a little longer but you will get more back on your investment and won't have to pick between two poor options for target guns. Take the money and buy something (a rifle) you actually want or could use.

People come to the forums for a deal. Anything too expensive and they are going to start offering you their junk in a trade. A good deal on the wrong thing isn't a good deal.

Well he offered me a mosin nagant with 500rds of ammo but all his ammo were steel cases which i cant use, so i told him id take the mosin, 100 rds of ammo and $550 cash he then asked what else id trade for and i asked what else he had? He has a remington 783 in .300 win mag or savage axis in .223,
I told him i would take the mosin, either the savage or remington and $300 on top or just the mosin and all cash on top which is probably best for
Me. But i figure if im going to shoot one of the two, .223 is cheaper and easier for target shooting.
But my gaze was mainly on the mosin but not of course a flat trade.

Unless you reload and shoot at 1000 yards, you don't need a 300 WinMag.

wouldn't you rather just buy what you want instead of settling on stuff like a Savage that can be had for $300?

My brother bought his Moshin in NC right outside of Camp Le Jeune for $199 .... I can't find them here in CA for that but the point is they are out there.

I agree with the above. Those three rifles are cheap and it better sell the gun and buy a nicer rifle that you want either new or used. i have a mosin it was 100 bucks and i also have a savage axis for 250 used....

If you do want to trade take the savage with cash on top. Mosin cheap ammo is mainly steel ammo and it seems like you don't want steel cased. 300win Mag sucks for target shooting if your just shooting paper due to cost.

Everyone I know that bought a .300 Win Mag, didn't need a .300 Win Mag - and I know at least 7 guys who bought.300 Win Mag rifles (one then turned around and bought a .300 RSAUM within a season or two and proudly exclaimed how much better it was...).

Mosin = good
The rest of what you mentioned = not worth you wasting your time and money to justify the trade.
