I would take a guess that there's more 7.62x39 in the world than any other bullet therefore making it king of the world

If longevity is the only criteria, 7.62x54r is your winner.
Realistically though I'd have to say 30-06Originally posted by GoodEyeSniperMy neighbors think I'm a construction worker named Bruce.
Little do they know that's just my stripper outfit and name.Originally posted by ChopperXI am currently cleaning it and I noticed when I squeeze the snake this white paste like substance comes out. I have found nothing within my area, nor any other area I care to be in, that can't be killed at 350/400yds, and under, with a 7.62X39, and a good SKS.
There is nothing wrong with the .30-30 either.
Over 400yds, you have the .30-06, and the .308/7.62X51.
There is no "King", but many "Princes".
I would be good with ANY of the stated calibers in this thread, including .303 British, for survival, bigger game hunting.
I've shot most of what's listed, and my conclusion, is..... No matter which it is, the end result is always:
Point.
Aim.
Shoot.
Kill it.
IF I do my part.Last edited by Dragunov; 08-29-2016, 6:58 AM.Comment

Without a doubt the 30-06 it is the standard which all others are measured by.
Yea there are more powerful .30's, yea there are more accurate .30's but the classic 06 has the best combo of all.If you want change you have to put in your 2 cents, you can't just sit on the sidelines and whine.Comment

I have five rifles in .30 caliber. Starting with a Marlin 1936 in 30-30 that I inherited from my Dad (and was my first deer hunting rifle back in 1965), I have a Marlin 336 (also in 30-30), Browning X-Bolt Medallion in .308, Springfield M1A in 7.62x51 and a Browning A-Bolt II Medallion in .300 WSM.
The .300 WSM is by far the most accurate. The 30-30s are the flat-out most fun and are my "go-to" rifles for deer hunting in my neck of the woods (Mendocino National Forest and coastal woods). Still working on the X-Bolt but the M1A is fabulous beyond words, probably my favorite overall rifle for a lot of reasons.
I don't know why anyone would think that the 30-30 is not used for hunting. It is an excellent short to medium range rifle for coyotes to deer. Also fun to kick out jack rabbits and let 'em have it.
My brother (Ruger 77) and son (M1 Garand) have 30-06.
They're all good.

One of my older friends has a rifle chambered for the 300 Savage.
I think it has a rotary magazine.
The next time I visit him I'll find out exactly which rifle it is.

That is most likely a Savage Model 99 lever gun. They had a neat mag-counter with a little window displaying the number of rounds left in the gun. 300 Savage was designed for this gun and both the round and the gun were popular for many years.

My guess is it's a Savage 99.

The rifle is a Model 99.
I looked at it this morning and wrote down its serial number so I could determine when it was manufactured.
1926 matched the serial number.
Because I left my glasses home I couldn't see very well but I'm pretty sure the rifle had the following roll marks:
PPL SSURE STEEL
Anybody know what they mean?Last edited by riftol; 09-01-2016, 11:32 AM.Comment
