lol, darn straight about that
or get a Rossi, the ejectors work pretty good on those. If I set up at the right, my latest 92 will launch\eject over my right shoulder into the bed of my truck 6 feet behind me
I do wonder how this will effect web prices, ammo's going to suck buying after this mess but I don't think we'll see the prices on web be effected too much, what do you think?Last edited by golfish; 07-01-2016, 3:31 PM.It takes a lot of balls to play golf the way I do.

OP, have you priced 30-30 ammo? I have a 1920's Winchester 30-30 that my grandfather gave me when I was a kid. If I were buying a lever rifle now, I would no question go pistol caliber, probably .357 since I have a .357 revolver. Ammo will be cheaper and more readily available.Comment

The model 1895 Winchester used a box magazine and was made in 30-06 among other calibers.
Quite right. The original "Henry" rifles were made by the New Haven arms Company, not the Henry gun company. They were nicknamed Henry because they were patented by a guy named Henry. The company became the Winchester Repeating Arms company in 1866, when the majority stockholder in the New Haven Arms Company, named Oliver Winchester, took full control of the company, and its new 1866 model with Kings Patent Improvement (side loading gate) came out.Henry is an old name but the company doing business as Henry is not the same as the Henry of old. That company became part of Winchester and the Win 66 was an improved Henry with a side loading gate and fore end wood. The new Henrys are nice enough but its just a name, not actual repros of the old Henry rifle of the 1860s. But by the same token the new Winchesters are made in Japan by Miroku...but at least they're reasonably accurate reproductions of period firearms.
I like my Japanese Winchesters
The new Henry company is in no way shape or form connected to the rifles or company from 1860-1865, despite their bit of history portrayed on their company website.
Interesting. Ive had quite a few Winchesters since the middle 70s, no parts have fallen out of any of them, and I never felt concern that any would so far.I like hitting the used racks....
My go to lever is a Savage 99. I find them nicer to carry than the Win/Marlin 94 style. They were available in a variety of cartridges that I think are superior to 30/30(250 Savage, 300 Savage, 308). The action is tighter than a Win 94; when you work a Win94 it is like the whole guts of the rifle are going to fall out...
In pistol cartridge, the Marlin 94C is a ton of fun. The Marlin does not seem to have all the guts falling out when you work the lever.
If I were to get another it would be a Browning BLR in a 7mm-08 or 30-06
The 94 Winchesters made since about 1982 have been angle eject, and are as simple to scope as a Marlin. It seems to be a well guarded secret.
For the ultimate in classy 45-70s, try a Browning or Winchester 1886. After getting my first one, I lost interest in the Marlin 45-70s. Fine guns, just not the same level of panache and class.
Good question, and quite true about the ammo. It would be easy to lose interest because of expensive ammo. Handloading is the way to really enjoy them. Even the inexpensive Lee Loaders can make reasonably priced ammo, and is a good way to get started in the reloading habit. Many of us happily started off in reloading with them.
If a Japanese gun, it would be a really smoking deal. New ones are over $1k. All the Miroku made Winchester copies Ive had or handled have been truly outstanding quality guns.
Hmm, haven't really had much trouble with the top eject Winchesters and copies Ive had. They usually send the empties slightly right and over the shoulder. Sorry to hear you had bad experiences."Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs even though checkered by failure, than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much because they live in the gray twilight that knows neither victory nor defeat." -Theodore Roosevelt-Comment

I think the gun is more expensive. I haven't priced 30-30 ammo. I like to shoot, but I don't shoot a lot, so ammo cost isn't really a factor. I have reached the point in life that there are things that I want to have (a bucket list of stuff). A lever gun is one of them.OP, do you think the gun itself would be more expensive?
I'd like to get a 30-30, I don't even know why I don't have one seeing how I have 4 pistol caliber lever guns. Its kind of silly that I don't have one
I'd say the ammo price and fun from the .357 would beat the 30-30, that just an internet opinion though.
I've also read that the least powered 30-30 round equals the highest powered .357 round, so that's not bad from pistol cartridge.
Henry seems to be introducing new models every year, and Rossi seems to be dropping models every year. Rossi seems to be stepping up the QC, the last .357 model 92 I bought was the best of the bunch, quality is very good and its the best shooter of the 3 I have..
Thanks to everyone that has taken their time to respond.

Shooter..? Pick it up on the 8th. A JM barreled 2006 .44 mag Marlin Lever.
I will probably just send it to Houston Texas for the Short Stroke Kit and .45ACP

What would you use it for? Hunting, home defense, or all around gun? Older Marlins are always a safe bet, 30-30 can be found at Walmart as we speak for about $17 for a box of 20. Sales are always there if you look. Rossi makes good carbines in 357 and 44. Most reload and keep ammo cost low. If you don't, go 357 so you can shoot the cheap 38 special. 44 is fun but expensive. Henry I have no experience with but I do know they're on the heavy side. Many others, more experienced than me, avoid the new Marlins made by Remington. Whatever you end up getting, it won't be your last lever gun. They're highly addictiveI have a desire for a lever gun. Never had one. I guess a 30-30 is what I want. It looks like .357 can get expensive. If you have a few minutes, could someone give some advice on what I should look for? Marlin, Winchester? Not sure I want a Henry. I know they are probably great, but I think I want an "old name." As you can see, I haven't a clue. I just know that I want one.
Thanks in advance
