Brother in Law is still angered by the fact that my 22-250 788 with its whippy pencil barrel. Outshoots his 700 Varmint Special heavy barrel at 4 times the initial cost.

IIRC the year was 1974, but I remember the cost was $74.95 at Woolworths in Cerritos.

kendog4570 has it right. Wish I had NEVER sold my 788 in .308. Dumb ***! Would love to get a good one in 7-08. Fantastic budget rifle.

My catalog from 1980 lists that clambering. I believe that was the first year for that one.

          My 1979 "Shooter's Bible" does not list the 7mm-08. Just the 22.250, 222, 223, 25-06, 6mm, 243 and 308.

The 1984 edition lists the carbines in 243, 308 and 7mm-08

Mine's a 30-30 so they missed that one too... Admittedly they are kinda rare, and the Blue Book lists them at a premium value....

Thanks for all your sharing and caring just want to show you guys my two best favorite wood stock until I get myself a Winchester model 70. Just adding photos to this thread.

Top is the Remington Model 788- 308WIN with front sight without Sling.
Bottom is the Ruger M77 MK-ll 7MM WIN MAG with Sling. Just for some people that don't know what these two bolt action are. Enjoy

The left handed 788 in 308 is the third rifle from the left:

Dang Frank, maybe you bought mine. Sold it, actually traded it at a gunshop in 1984 or '85.

Nope, I bought it at Donnelly's Gunshop in Lompoc, CA, in July of 1975. I still have the receipt, hang tag, manual, etc.
