    Mosin Muzzle Brake Question

So I am starting my Mosin 91/30 project with an Archangel stock and other items.

My question is which Muzzle brake do you recommend?
Twist on - I read an earlier Calguns thread (couldn't reply to it after X time period) that had one respond that twist on will eventually come off and be found down range. Does anyone experience to corroborate or refute this?

Threaded - Does anybody have a recommended threaded muzzle brake for a 91/30? For those that have had a barrel threaded, any idea on the cost?

    Thanks

Muzzle break is worth more than the Mosin.

I charge $130 to shorten and thread a Mosin and time your 5/8-24 threaded muzzle brake to the barrel.

KCStott will do it for $10.

Which I highly recomend.......a 91/30 in that ark stock will feel like flounder out of water each shot.........never felt anything like that in a rifle before.

Those slo mo vids of a AK firing and barrel flex is nothing compared to a 91/30 in a ark stock, it feels like those vids look.

kcstott is taking a stand against Mosins. And fun projects I 'spose...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but any .308/7.62 muzzle brake would work, no?

I use cheap .308 muzzle brake from Ebay and after all the work, my gun shoots 0.5" group at 100 yards with reloaded ammo.

I shortened/cut the barrel to 24", recrowned and threaded myself (15x1rh). Has a FH instead of MB and recoil is very tame.
Shooting 1" and under feels like no challenge. Would outshoot my Rem 700 anytime/all the time.
                  Archangel is an excellent stock.

Same here with 24" barrel and archangel stock. I bedded the stock, too.

Ditto. It won't be pretty as Randall's work but it gets the work done lol. Here's my build.

You can just get your muzzle threaded, then there is a large selection of muzzle brakes. Some are gunsmith timed installation and some are screw-on with a clamp or shim. I'd get a 338 brake to allow some extra clearance in case it isn't screwed on perfectly straight. In fact, some people believe that rifles shoot better with extra brake clearance. I use 50 BMG brakes on my .375s since .375 isn't a common caliber for a brake with 1" threads. The 50 brakes perform just great with 0.6-0.7" clearance on each side.

Fun? really you think trying to chuck up a barrel and action that doesn't have one surface on it that hasn't been hit by a 7" angle grinder fun??

Take that pile of junk out to the garage and just drill some holes in the barrel. it will match the craftsmanship already in place on the rifle.

Fire a couple of rounds to deburr it an call it good.

Seriously the reason I don't work on Mosins is the crappy finish and surfaces you have to deal with. for a crappy rifle it's not worth my effort. and you sure as hell are not going to want to pay me $65 an hour to work on it.

For some reason Mosin owner think the work should cost half that of what the same job on a Rem would run.

But if you want work befitting of a mosin sure bring it over. we'll drill out the brake till it slips over the barrel and weld it in place. Got a scope you need mounted I'll weld that in place to. Only the finest of quality 1/8" 7018 structural steel welding rod.

Like i said in my PM I do not work on junk. Sorry.
