I have a rifle made in Nuremberg Germany dating back to the 16th century.
Following your logic Savage stole everything from August Kotter.
My rifle has a action a trigger and even a rifled barrel. Did Savage have that in 1558? Or did they copy his work? Unless you can show me a pre 1558 Savage having all those parts it's just a copy right. Just following your logic.

Is it a bolt action?

If that was my logic I'd said everyone copied von Dreyse or Mauser they're both older than Savage.

No it's not my logic and no Savage didn't have a pre 1558 stock. They copied others on their stock design same as everyone else who copied Savage on other designs.

I agree on throwing out your Savages but as the Remington 700 is the most popular rifle made and the most copied in terms of custom actions I would keep it.
Remington has sold more than 5,000,000 model 700's and the Remington Pattern trigger is on almost every custom action made.
There is a reason for this and there is a also a reason why nobody making a custom action uses a Savage pattern trigger.
In fact when you want a Savage to shoot your gunsmith throws away the barrel nut and sets the headspace after shouldering the barrel against the action just like a Remington.
I know this because if you look at the picture of my Savage you will notice it sports a recoil lug and a Remington style barrel.

The barrel is a 33 inch Bartlein and the recoil lug is a 0.250 +0.010 oversize Kiff the muzzlebrake is from Harrell Bros. The Accu-Trigger was given away and a SSS Competition trigger was put in.
I am waiting on Kiff for a new bolt new boltface and lift kit. I am using a borrowed Stevens bolt from Shaun Brady who posts here.
When completed the only factory original parts will be the receiver and the stock.

I understand what you are saying but not all of us are long range precision shooters. And the OP was not about any of this, he just wanted to know if the entry level gun was worth the asking price. Never understood the millions sold,means I better have one saying....Do you own a VW bug? Or a FIAT 124(maybe the most copied car on earth). You guys are in this deeper than most on here. Everything doesn't have to end" with buy a Remington 700. I have one and it's cool, has taken game. That's the extent of my use for that particular rifle. Anyway nice looking gun, and most people use the 700 (or variant)because guys have done the leg work and it has proved itself. Nothing wrong wth that.

I actually didn't start posting on this thread until late in the game.
I don't like telling people how to spend there money unless I know them pretty well and know what they are after.
I am also tainted because I have been competing in many different disciplines since age 12 so I tend to recommend what will win rather than what will work.
I don't own a VW or FIAT just several trucks and two jeeps.
That said my trucks go everywhere and are not asphalt Queens.
The popularity of the Remington comes from its simllicity and ease to get it shooting small groups.
I was sucked into posting when I read that Remington's are not copied much.

So...op I say you save up a couple hundred more and buy a used tikka in the classifieds. There are a couple nice ones for sale right now in each part of the state.

They are far better than any axis, ruger american, mossberg, or 783.
