The 20 MOA base is simply giving you additional elevation before your scope maxes out. This is only needed if you are shooting at ranges near or beyond 1K.
If you are shooting out to the 600-700 range the additional MOA from the base would not be needed as the scope itself will have enough elevation to get you there. Unless it's a really inexpensive scope
