I wish people would respond like that with caliber/cartridge.

Hard to do when places like Dillon call it caliber conversion, not cartridge conversion.....

I was going to make a new thread, but I think this thread is as good a place as any.

          Muzzle brakes with OD threads:

Now, I assume they are perfectly legal. Why not? But, we also have to kind of acknowledge risk is present for "owning suppressor parts"

Is there any counter-point or counter-opinion to the overly-cautious ninny-calgunner-group opinion that owning or using such a muzzle brake is too risky to be acceptable?

They do have a perfectly legitimate use of shrouding to shield the shooter from concussion. Which yields the exact same risk for "owning suppressor parts".

Thoughts? (unless you are in the ninny-group. I already know your opinion)

          ----------------

Quick google check, is the best answer going to be "noone has been the test case yet?" Is there any reason to believe a less conservative opinion than that?

            No.
The only reason for such muzzle brake is if you also have the can that screws on to it though.
The suppressor mount brakes tend to be less effective muzzle brake designs and more effective blast baffle designs.
The blast baffle is the first baffle in the can and the mount is designed to be the "wear part" so the rest of the can does not need to be made as heavily.
Then, when you wear out the blast baffle, you just get a new suppressor mount.

Where does that put designs such as this one?

the shroud is a distraction, "and just who do you think you are kidding?"

                    www.harrellsprec.com and never look back.
You get your brake in less than a week and a thread protector is an additional $10
They have been making brakes for over 25 years and the threading is outstanding.
Plus no holes on the top of the brake if you like the Tactical type brakes.

A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

All the time at the range:

                        What caliber is that?

                        four fifty two

                        *silence" or "ok"

                        never a followup.

                        or

                        five-ten

                        or

                        50 cal

never a followup question from the asker...

Precision Rifle Blog has tons of info and testing on brakes. Do your research there before you buy.

I run Desert Tech muzzle brakes on 300 Win mag and 338 Lapua mags and they are very effective. I do not run a brake on my 6.5 creedmoor. Not enough kick to warrant one in my opinion.

Whiterabbit---Have had the same thing happen so many times. Or when I ask what they are shooting I get caliber and not cartridge. I love it when they ask what caliber and I say 6.5mm (it is a 6.5X55 in aTikka) then I get out another rifle and when they ask after the much bigger report I say 6.5MM and they say they are not the same. I say they are the same CALIBER(6.5) but the 2nd one is a 264win mag while the 1st shoots a 6.5X55 CARTRIDGE.
                              Some still do not understand.
Some will ask what CLIP I am using and I say none. Some get irritated and think I am hiding the make. I tell them I am using X-brand MAGS.

However some here think using the correct terminology is being a Dick. I wonder if they would mind if I called an Yugo a Mercedes when selling them a car??
