No way haha. I'm spending a little more than I initially planned but don't want to end up wishing I just got the better scope to begin with.

So I ordered my scope, rings and base today. I settled on the Vortex PST 6-24x50 EBR-2C MRAD. Rings are Badger medium height steel. Base is a Nightforce 20 MOA, also steel.

Just waiting on the rifle to get to Bass Pro so I can start the 10 days of torture.

After 8 days of waiting, my rifle came in on the 11th but Bass Pro makes you wait 11 days to get your firearm, so I will be getting it a week from Friday.

Brownells is really slow to process orders but all my parts should be in before I pick up the rifle. This wait is brutal.

I am considering a DBM kit but I don't know much about them. Which kit would work the best with .30-06? I want something that's good quality.

                Your choices are limited.
Accurate mag is the only one that makes a reliable 30-06 magazine and they still need some tinkering.
PTG or Badger sell long action DBM setups that take the accurate mags.

That's unfortunate. I guess I can hold off on the DBM.

where did you order the scope from? Do they have it in stock? Been looking everywhere with no luck.

Got it from Brownell's. They had it in stock as of last Sunday.

I've been thinking about a 700 in .30-06 for a while. One thing that turned me off if the 700 was the idea that the quality of new 700's left something to be desired. You say the new ones are supposed to be even better quality than the old ones?

Also, with this 700LR in '06 what kind of distances would the rifle be capable of maintaining sub MOA groups with quality ammo? Are we talking past 1000 yards, past 1500 yards? Enquiring minds want to know.

(And now I'll go read the sniper central thread, that will probably answer all my questions...)

From what I have read and been told, the LR models seem to be better quality. I don't know how true that is.

My precision shooting experience is pretty limited to short range .22 lr and some longer range with my SPRish AR15. This rifle is going to be used for learning so I'm sure it will be more capable than me for a long time.

This a common fallacy promulgated by people with no hands-on experience with them.

Good to know. I think I'll see what I can do to get ahold of one of these... It's probably going to involve selling one or more of my lesser used rifles, budget and all that stuff.
