if u every fly with scoped rifles pelican hard case is only way to go. Also on arrival be sure to recheck the zero of you scope before hunting or shooting, ask me how I know. Airline employees just toss cases on carts. Transporting to and from shooting I use soft cases inside my pu.

The Plano Upright case Milotrain linked is a great case for all but flying with.

It takes an OAL rifle length of 50" and it holds my 30" barrel fine. It is tall inside; I've got a Nightforce with extra-high rings and turrets and nothing touches.

You can add additional foam for a custom fit. Great for $50.

            I use Pelican cases exclusively
            This.

Why screw around? You can't keep your firearms in a better case.

I've mostly got soft cases and never had a problem. I've got 2 hard cases one a plastic junker that came with a gun I bought the other a very nice Weatherby one that came with my MKV. I dig that one out only when the Weatherby is going out for exercise. The only time you'll really need a hard case is if you are flying.

There's a fundamental difference if the goal is protection or simple transport.

For protection, you go with a hard case, or a good drag bag like the Tactical Operations drag bags. Unfortunately, the really good soft cases end up costing more than hard cases.

Just basic transport, it is hard to beat the Midway logo'd stuff when it is on sale. They sell things very cheaply to get their name out when it comes to things like bags or mats.

Of course, a different option is to get one of those shooting mats that doubles as a bag. Those can be useful in some situations.

                  On sale.

There are no great men. Just great challenges which ordinary men, out of necessity, are forced by circumstance to meet.
