Winchester model 70

Just purchased two model 70s 1 is a xtr 7mm rem mag and the other is a xtr featherweight 270win . Can't find any info using the serial numbers . They are still brand new new been stored for about 25 years. Any info will help thanks. Getting a scope for the 7mm this wknd

Nice score. Both quality hunting rifles and versatile calibers. Used to have a Model 70 featherweight .270 just like yours.

I'd say you scored big time. Always liked those Featherweights. Had a Mod 70 in 7mm RM just like yours. Great rifle.

If those rifles are 25 years old, yeah, probably push-feed. My M70's a New Haven push-feed (7mm RM), and my understanding is that the push-feed mechanism is actually a little stronger than the CRF style, because you surround more of the cartridge with steel. I've got no problem with this mechanism.

Thanks fellas they are both push feed rifles. The 270 is. 22" barrel the 7 Mm is a 24". Going to dress up the 7 first scope and all . And yes they will be used for hunting

I thought I heard that Glen Jensen retired but he was the Browning historian at this number.. he could lookup Winchester as well..

I have talked to Glen several times and he is very pleasant to listen too and full of a wealth of knowledge..

... I never saw why the push feed was so rejected by the shooting crowd but they did ...

When one is on his back and has to chamber a round while a dangerous game is about to pounce on him push feeds do not work.

A friend of mine would have been dead today if he did not have a CRF rifle (Win 70 to be exact) in that exact situation.

Now, for 99% of the hunters it doesn't matter, but people always look at that 1%.

When one is on his back and has to chamber a round while a dangerous game is about to pounce on him push feeds do not work.

If you do it in one continuous swift movement, push feed will work upside down.
It's only if you go slow, stop and go and stop and go will the cartridge fall out of a push feed while you are upside down.

If I had dangerous game about to pounce on me, either rifle would work just fine because you can bet your *** I would not be moving the bolt slowly.

The push feeds with guide ribs are better engineered/better built actions than the old Pre 64 CRF's. The CRF's are better to have in a dangerous game hunting scenario.
