    Remington 700 Bought

Went to my LGS today to eye a cheap Remington 700 and they had this available used:

After wiping the drool off my chin and examining the rifle for a few minutes, I bit the bullet... It will be in my possession on the 29th!

I'm thinking it's a 1984 model, since the serial number starts with an E, but I'm not sure and the LGS didn't know. Also came with a Leupold scope mounted. The LGS didn't know the model number of it and I can't figure it out.

Can anyone shed more light on the rifle year or scope model?

    More pics:

This is a less-than-educated guess: the rifle looks like a Remington 700 VLS (based on the stock and the bolt), but the VLS comes with a 26 inch barrel. If it is a VLS, I wonder if the barrel was shortened when they had it threaded and the muzzle break attached? If the rifle is from 1984, then it could be a model I'm not familiar with (and I'm talking based on very limited knowledge, anyway).

As far as the scope, the model name is currently covered by the lens cap at the front. Remove the entire front lens cap, and you'll see the model name written in gold. It probably starts "vari x" or "vx" followed by a roman numeral or number. The scope will also have a serial number stamped on it (I think on the tube). You can email Leupold with the serial number and a photo of the scope, and they'll tell you the model and year of manufacture of the scope.

That's a nice rifle, but that price tag price of $1300 for that package seems a little high to me (unless the scope is new, and worth more than I think it is).

OP said he can't pick it up until 3/29/16 (10 day wait).

The price may have been a little high, but since I live in the boondocks, I always factor in my time (which is worth something, maybe?) for driving, gas, etc. - times 2 (10 day wait). And I have been looking in my area and haven't seen anything as nice near that price.

Give us the details on that Leupold gold ring with the tall target turrets so we can get you a price.
Magnification and a serial number would help including the letter it is. Should all be there on the front bell if my memory is any good.
Scope is most likely worth more than the rifle.

As soon as I get it (the 29th), I'll post that info.

                    Thanks.

Well, if it turns out to be a $600 + scope, then I think you did just fine!

I'm sure you'll really like that rifle!

                          Thanks.

It is more beautiful in person, which is why I couldn't resist buying it. After I receive it, I'll report on how it shoots. I am new to long range shooting, but I have a good friend who I'm going to bring with me to give me a more informed opinion.

I've got a 1979 adl, not quite as pretty as that one but very nice it's got an amazing trigger on it. I love shooting it. I just need glass for it now. Have fun with yours looks like all you need is range time

Can't tell without better pics but that is a pretty old Leupold I think. Doesn't add a lot of value.
