    Anyone here see this....

Holy rat feathers Batman... I'm sure glad I found my 700 338RUM before I saw this.. I'd be on it...right after I win the Lotto.... :-)

I visited the website and ended up wondering what the extra $ will get you over a 700?? I read a lot of feedback and most of the kills could have been made just as well with a 700. Trying to figure out if it's a status symbol or a phallic symbol??

It's a lightweight hunting rifle meant for people who have spare money and don't want to carry a heavy rifle uphill.

Most Benchrest shooters look at Tacticool Rifles from the custom manufacturers and shake there heads. Less accuracy and a higher price tag. I remember one company who now uses semi custom actions using Remington 700 actions and charging $4500.
They would then add a $3000 scope on a 308 Winchester because it is a ballistic beast requiring such optics.
PT Barnum would roll over in his grave.

For that kind of money you could hire a full time Sherpa.... :-)

PT rolls over a lot, but this one might make him sit up and say a few words....

Most Benchrest rifles in 6PPC that are out of tune will outshoot most custom rifles that are in tune.
My favorite is putting a long-range specialty scope on a 308 Winchester. Most 308 Winchesters require Swarovski Z6

If I remember correctly the 308 was the caliber everyone shot in thousand yard matches back in the late 60's.. Some the gun/barrels were really strange. A big block of steel bored and rifled with an action screwed on the back. Sorta lobbed those babies in there.....

30 caliber is still the choice of most 1000 yard benchrest shooters today.
The 300 WSM and 300 Ackley are both very popular choices.
I have never seen a 308 Winchester at a 1000 yard benchrest match since Ron Tilley shot one in about 2006 and then only for one or two matches.
You will see them at 600 yard benchrest matches from time to time.
The Shooter in the picture is Dee Tompkins from Colorado. The front rest weighs 125 pounds which is about 15-20 pounds more than Dee.

Anything with titanium is automatically better, too. I mean, it's got a 1/2 moa guarantee.

No way to get that level of performance without titanium...
You will never, in your life, have a chance like this again.
If I were you, I would not pass this up. I would not let this go by...this is rare.
              Come on...what harm??

It's simple, really: My purchasing decisions are useful, reasonable, and practical. Your purchasing decisions are excessive and wasteful.

Plus, dude, you bought a 338RUM. Compensating for something, are we? [j/k]

700s are good guns, but if you don't think you can gain by spending a bit more on a large rifle, you probably haven't shot that many rifles.

It's the fact that most rifles that cost $5,000 will generally be superior in almost every aspect compared to an R700.

Better ergos, easier bolt manipulation, better feeding, better triggers, more accurate, more reliable.

Yes. As an example I'd suspect that an overwhelming number of people would prefer and see an enormous difference between an Accuracy International and an R700. The R700, in its best state will no longer have any Remington parts other than the receiver.

Also, I prefer the R700 short actions to the magnum stuff. The bolt diameter is a bit small on the larger magnums.

You had wondered if more expensive rifles are merely a status symbol. No, that is not the case (usually). If you are dealing with reputable and well-established companies, you pretty much get what you pay for. Albeit, there is decreasing marginal benefit with price.
