probably a mag issue, they're flimsy and don't always snap in all the way.Originally posted by Kestryll..you're kind of a sad excuse for an attorney...Originally posted by Libertarian777...Don't pick either side....Comment

That was going to be my next question. Make sure the magazine is fully seated. Would help to take some pictures of the bolt in the rearward position behind a loaded mag.Comment

Actually some of those opinions own Savage rifles and recommend sending it back rather than wasting money on do it yourself fixes.
Cycle 40 pieces of ammo through it with the rifle sitting on something very stable and you will know how it feeds.
If it doesn't feed properly send it back.
I actually own one and will never buy another but that has nothing to do with how your gun feeds or doesn't feed. And mine is probably more accurate than most.
did that and it cycles better now, could it be its not broken in all the way? less than 70 rounds through it total.Beretta 92FS 9mm

Should feed fine right out of the box. But without knowing the exact problem it's tough to nail down why you are having trouble.Comment

If you can cycle rounds through it in your living room it should work just as well in the field without any break in.
If your used to regular rifles and buy a Savage they take a little time getting used too.
When the bolt is pulled back nothing happens until it comes all the way back then it resets the cocking piece which on my model is also the bolt release.
If you short schuck it the next round won't fire.
That isn't a problem just something that is required to operate the rifle.Lynn Dragoman, Jr.

What model? I have a 110, all I have to do to reset cocking piece is lift the handle. If you can cycle rounds through it in your living room it should work just as well in the field without any break in.

We have the axis 1 in .223 and .22-250. No real issues with either. The axis series are entry level bolt actions not a real pricey rifle. Only thing I ever notice is a little trouble getting the mags to lock in correctly. The bolts on both seemed to get better with use and time. Maybe get a spare mag and see if that solves the problem.VW's Are not for Hippies...
