Got my Savage 11 VT for $400 OTD (after rebate, including DROS) from DSG.
It's also center-fed with composite stock but with a bull barrel.
What's your use? Hunting? Plinking?
I just started a thread on replacing the bottom metal and putting my Savage in a Boyds stock which also applies to the Axis and I believe the Trophy Hunter as well.Originally posted by longrange1my gun shoots better with shiny brass...plus not only does the shiny brass make me look like a pimp at the range if the sun catches it just right it blinds the guy next to me which improves my odds of winning the match.Originally posted by XDJYoFull size. You can't go that wrong with a $350 .223. Check out the comparables made by Ruger and Remington and get what you like. As long as you are keeping the rifle for .223, I don't think you will see that much advantage with one over the other within the same price class.Comment

I think the Axis is the best of the bargin basement rifles out there. Replace the scope and stock, and do a little trigger work and its not a bad rifle.Comment

If you are going to benchshoot, look for the heavy barrel version. Howa has the detachable mag conversions for there's and does not require any machining but $200 more.Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.
I really miss the good old Pomona Gun Shows.

I have one. I like it because the twist rate is 1-9 able to stabilize heavier bullets. Remington as an example has a 1-14 twist in most of their rifles except the "P" model.
For $350 it's a great rifle for plinking and small varmints.Comment

I have a .308 version that I like a lot. Do the DIY trigger upgrade, it shaved like 5 lbs off my trigger. What do you plan on using it for?Welcome to OT, where hypocrisy is King, outrage is Queen and the Kingdom is on the shores of the Denial River.
