Got my Savage 11 VT for $400 OTD (after rebate, including DROS) from DSG.

It's also center-fed with composite stock but with a bull barrel.

    What's your use? Hunting? Plinking?

I just started a thread on replacing the bottom metal and putting my Savage in a Boyds stock which also applies to the Axis and I believe the Trophy Hunter as well.

You can't go that wrong with a $350 .223. Check out the comparables made by Ruger and Remington and get what you like. As long as you are keeping the rifle for .223, I don't think you will see that much advantage with one over the other within the same price class.

I think the Axis is the best of the bargin basement rifles out there. Replace the scope and stock, and do a little trigger work and its not a bad rifle.

This. The Axis II is not much more $, and it has the accutrigger.

If you are going to benchshoot, look for the heavy barrel version. Howa has the detachable mag conversions for there's and does not require any machining but $200 more.
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.

I have one. I like it because the twist rate is 1-9 able to stabilize heavier bullets. Remington as an example has a 1-14 twist in most of their rifles except the "P" model.

For $350 it's a great rifle for plinking and small varmints.

This. The accutrigger is an improvement over the original Axis' trigger.

And if you wanted to go one step further you'd spend $114 and get the drop in Timney Trigger.

I have a .308 version that I like a lot. Do the DIY trigger upgrade, it shaved like 5 lbs off my trigger. What do you plan on using it for?

I bought one 3 years ago in .223. Very accurate.

Have one in 223 rem and 30-06. Bought for my 11 year old son and couldn't be happier.
both have SWFA 10XM scopes and had triggers fine tuned.

I bought an axis .223 last November. A lot of fun to shoot. Got .223 because of my AR. Didn't feel like stocking another caliber. I only target shoot anyways. My teenage girls like shooting it. Got it for $300 after rebate.
