Gun Socks

So I got some silicon gun sock to store my bolt action rifles. I already have a dehumidifier in the safe, the socks are more to keep the rifles from getting banged up and scratched.

My question is... I would like to remove the bolts while in storage, do they make storage socks for rifle bolts. I would have to tag them all to remember which bolt goes to which rifle but can figure out some sort of tagging system.

I figure with the bolts removed the socks go on easier and rifles take less space in the safe.

Use a pistol sock. With a label.

I used to use actual human socks for slides, bolts, etc... and still do if I take a bunch of slides to the range... but I have those Velcro mag pockets all around my safe which store slides and mags, probably work for many bolts too. Some sit above the barrels of most rifles so they are out of the way. Rifle socks like the Cabelas ones are great for keeping guns unscathed in a packed safe.

Turn every other rifle upside down and they will pack better in the safe. Put the muzzles of the upside down guns in little plastic cups (spray can tops) to keeping the safe floor clean.

Probably cut a rifle sock in 4 or 5 pieces and get g-ma to sew one end closed.. Maybe even add a string ( paracord) to the open end to cinch it closed... Like my precious Crown Royal bags.. Of course finding a woman that sews today might be a whole other problem... Alteration shop ??.. Just a thought... Cheers...

Or learn to sew and do it yourself. It's a useful skill to have.

That is exactly what I'm going to do, not even going to bother with the draw string, I can just fold the sock over.

Luckily I have an Asian wife who knows how to do all the old school wife stuff, like cook and sew for her hubby. Call me old school or even worse but she is a keeper.

silicone socks...nose down....bolts out, tagged and in a silicone sock stored in a small "hidden" safe far from the rifles...bolts without rifles are no good and rifles with no bolts are no good to a smash and graber...

i thought intersting method my friend uses is he does cut up the socks for his bolts but he uses cheap bulk pack of luggage tags off amazon to match them up. Basically wraps bolt in stock puts matching tag with number on it and the rifle in safe.

Good idea with the luggage tags, just ordered a bunch.

That's what I do with slides and long athletic socks. Just drop the slide or bolt in, fold sock and roll it onto the other end. With the right socks they don't come undone and have lots of padding, no cutting, plus it is free. The ones I have that I don't wear anymore are black, so they are tactical too.

These are the velcro backed mag pockets with open tops for $10 (12 pockets).

Easy to install and cut to fit anywhere in a carpeted safe with wasted space. Leave enough head room and they should easily fit many bolts and pistol mags and slides.

Just buy a standard rifle sock. Use post it notes and some tape to tag the bolts. Drop one bolt in, fold the sock over, drop another in, fold again, and repeat for every bolt.
You could also cut the sock to size. Zip tie one end, and use velcro to close off the other (adhesive, or you can cut two slits in the sock and insert paracord or velcro to close it off).
